This letter is in reference to our annual service of the Boilers at the Arrtlers at Vail. We
typically service our boilers and boiler system in the fall of each year along with an
annual inspection from the Colorado Deparimerrt of Labor and Employmern. We fully
intend to service our new boilers at the pool at the same time aur building boilers are
serviced and tested.

SUBJECT: Antlers stainless vent clearance
DATE: August 20, 2004
The exiting flue gas temperatures are only 30 degrees, max, above the return water
temperature (see Buderus SB series brochure). The return water temperature will be 80
degrees per the plans. Therefore, the ma7�imum flue gas temperature will be 110 degrees
F. This is clearly not hot enough to cause combustion.
The manufacturers data recommends 4" clearance to combustibles in an enclosed chase.
However, due to the fact that the manufacturers of Z-Vent did not conduct testing below
300 degrees F, I have included the test results of a study on the low temperature ignition
of wood. In a nutshell, long-term exposure to direct heat should be kept below 170
degrees F. (see hi-lighted passage on page 1). We will not even approach this
temperature, and our flue pipe is not in direct contact with the framing.
The clearance required to combustibles is therefore going to be zero, as direct contact
with a 110-degree surface, even over an e�ended period of time will not cause ignition. I
