Town of Vail Mechanical Codes and Desian Criteria ♦ You must obtain Design Review Board (DRB)approval if any of the mechanical work will involve ANY exterior work. This includes and is not limited to removal and replacement of driveway snow melt systems. Please contact a planner at 479-2128 before submitting your mechanical permit application. ♦ The Town of Vail has adopted the 1998 International Mechanical Code(IMC)with the 1997 Uniform Mechanical Code(UMC) as an acceptable alternative. ♦ All new construction within the Town of Vail is considered to be of unusually tight construction,thus all combustion air is required to be drawn from outside the structure for mechanical equipment. Reference the 1997 UMC Sec. 701.2. Town of Vail Fireulace Ordinance In September of 1991,the Vail Town Council adopted an ordinance which restricts te�nstruction and use of open hearth fireplaces within municipal boundaries. Since that time the ordinance has undergone numerous changes and revisions, striving for compromise, yet effectiveness in addressing the air quality issue. Therefore the following criteria has been adopt�l: • Construction of open hearth wood burning fireplaces is no longer permitted within Town of Vail municipal boundaries. ♦ Dwellina Units— Each new dwelling unit may contain: One(1) EPA Phase II certified solid fuel burning device and no more than two(2)gas appliances (B vent) OR Two (2) gas log fireplaces and no more than two (2)gas appliance fireplaces(B bent). ♦ Restricted Dwellin ni — Each new restricted dwelling unit may contain: One (1) gas log fireplace and not more than one (1)gas appliance fireplace. • �modation Units— Each new accommodation uni# may contain: One (1) gas log fireplace or one (1) gas appliance �replace. + If two or more separate dweFling units or accommodation units are combined to form one larger unit,the combined unit may retain one woodburning fireplace(if one already exists)and no more than 2 gas appliance fireplaces, or may convert up to two existing fireplaces to gas. ♦ If during the course of a remodel an existing woodburning fireplace is altered or moved, the unit must then com pl y with all p r o v i s i o n s o f t h e o r d i n a n c e. The areas to be snow melted is per the sketC�h provide by J.L. Viele Construction on 1/28/02. The total area to be heated shall not exceed 970 square feet. 2. This information was previously sent to J.L. Viele Construction on 4/2/02. 3. This question remains unclear to us. This sy tem was designed by Gordon Gumeson& Associates and installed per th�re design drawing dated 7/30/Ol. There is no need for a floor drain since the �iop sink is directly below the boiler and the relief valve from the boiler can be p ped to the mop sink. The make up water to the boiler will be tied into the cold�ater side of the dornestic water system which has been designed by Gordon�Gumeson& Associates. A reduced pressure backflow preventor is in place in t ie system to protect the public water supply. 4. Refer to the enclosed submittals. The boiler pumps, expansion tank, controls were previously submitted on 4/2/02. 5. A 24v single stage heating thermostat will nable the Taco SR502 pump switching relay. The relay will close energi�ing Pumps P-1 &P-4. The three-way mixing valve will supply 140 degree Fahrer�heit (adj.) water to the radiant floor manifolds. When the thermostat is satisfied he relay will open and Pumps P-1 & P-4 will be disa.bled. The boiler aqua-stat s all be set at 180 degrees Fahrenheit (adj.) The snowmelt shall be controlled via �Tekmar 661 snow/ice controller. When the outside air temperature is below �5 degrees Fahrenheit (adj.) and the Tekmar 090 slab sensor closes due to moist�Zre, pumps P-1, P-2 &P-3 shall be enable. The pumps P-2 &P-3 shall run con�inuously until the controller is satisfied. Pump P-1 will cycle from the boil�r aqua-stat. 6. Refer to the enclosed submittals. The boiler� pumps, expansion tank, controls were previously submitted on 4/2/02. 7. Our piping drawings were previously subm' ted on 2/27/02. The code authority does not require this information. The owne�is the same entity as the code authority. � 8. Propylene glycol is to be used in the radiant floor and snowmelt systems. A mi�ure of 70%water/30%glycol shall be sed for the radiant floor. The snowmelt system shall have a 50%water/50% glycol mi�ure. The fuel which severs the boiler is natural gas. � 9. Yes, it is optional, but not required; refer to ipreviously submitted letter on 4/2/02. ; 10. Refer to previously submitted letter on 4/2/02.
