HomeMy WebLinkAboutWeekly Update 2008.06.20 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE June 20, 2008 NIGHTTIME I-70 VAIL OVERLAY PROJECT A community meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 25 in the Town of Vail Council Chambers to discuss the status of the I-70 overlay project. Residents, commuters, business owners and others impacted by the construction are encouraged to attend and provide feedback. The project includes replacement of inedian barriers, installation of variable message signs, construction of a chain down station near the East Vail exit and a pavement overlay from Dowd Junction to the East Vail exit. Construction began May 27 and will continue through August. To reduce impacts identified during the previous construction season, the Colorado Department of Transportation has made numerous changes to the project this year, including night construction and improved traffic flows. Construction is occurring from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Motorists are asked to drive the posted speed limit to maintain a safe construction site. ARRABELLE LOADING DOCK OPENS MONDAY As of Monday, June 23 at 7 a.m., all deliveries to businesses in LionsHead will be required to occur from the Arrabelle loading dock or from designated loading and delivery zones. Town of Vail Code Enforcement Officers (CEO) will be patrolling the area and educating drivers on the new rules for the entire week of June 23. Starting the week of June 30, CEO will begin active enforcement. The bays in the loading dock are first come, first served. A flyer outlining Arrabelle dock rules is attached to this update. In the event your business needs to access the LionsHead Mall area for a delivery that can't be accommodated through the Arrabelle dock, please contact a CEO in advance at 479-2200 for a special permit. Contact Todd Oppenheimer at (970) 390-4678 or (970) 479-2161. Vail Transportation Center Reroof A reroof of the bus terminal at the Vail Transportation Center is underway. Impacts to the parking structure are expected to be minimal and the contractor is required to maintain access to all buildings at all times. Contact John Gallegos at (970) 479-2170. Vail Road and Vail Valley Drive Overlays Curb and gutter work is occurring on Vail Road and Vail Valley Drive in preparation for overlays of both roads scheduled for June 25-27, weather permitting. Call Chad Salli at (970) 479-2169. 1 Eaqle River Water& Sanitation District Work Water and sewer line work on Beaver Dam Road is underway and is anticipated to continue through October. Access to all residences will be maintained; however, it will change from east to west as work progresses. Pedestrians are asked to avoid Beaver Dam Road. Also, work is underway on the abandonment of an old water line in Vail Valley Drive. Motorists should expect delays. Contact John Cahill at (970) 477-5447 for more information. Private Project Updates Front Door The Vista Bahn yard is complete. Work continues on the chalets with the first group scheduled for completion by the end of July. The ski club building will undergo inspections for TCO next week. The tower crane will be removed after the Fourth of July weekend. Contact Jeff Haselhorst, Hyder Construction at (303) 829-5741. Solaris Pre-cast deliveries are continuing and will be ongoing through September. Steel work is anticipated to begin the week of July 7. Large concrete pours continue to occur on Mondays. Large concrete pours are scheduled for Saturday and Monday and will primarily take place off of the South Frontage Road. Manor Vail Site work and hardscape is continuing, with the project aiming to have public access to Ford Park through the site open by July 1. Furniture is being loaded into units. The Willows Paver work is underway in front of the project. Curb and gutter work on Vail Road will take place early next week. The crane is scheduled for removal in mid-August. Announcements • Katsos Ranch recreation path is open; restoration of picnic areas is continuing. Users should anticipate equipment on the path and possible delays. Landscaping in the skier yard is ongoing. • Waterfall wall and plaza fountain are anticipated in mid-July. • Work around escalators and spa entrance is wrapping up and chandeliers are installed. • Arches over the mall are complete. Ritz-Carlton Excavation and shoring is continuing. A traffic plan to limit delays due to vehicle backing is being implemented.
