Gentlemen,
Monroe & Newell Engineers Inc conducted a structural site visit on March 19, 2013. The
purpose of our visit was to observe the installed framing of the building.
The following items were noted:
1. Steel column base plates that bear on concrete walls or footings had not yet
been grouted with non-shrink grout. The contractor shall install the grout per
the manufacturer's specifications.
2. Steel beams in upper level floors had been leveled with steel shims in bearing
locations on wood framing. The contractor shall install either shim plates
across the complete bearing area or he shall install non-shrink grout between
the steel beam and the wood bearing area to provide solid bearing. The same
non-shrink grout as for steel bearing plates on concrete can be used or a two-
component high strength epoxy can be installed.
3. In the west wall of the west unit entry hall blocking had not been installed
between upper level floor joists. The contractor shall install this blocking.
4. The LVL members of two living room roof trusses had been posted at their
south ends on the upper level floor. The trusses and posts shall be braced
permanently by the steel railing at the edge of the upper level floor.

5. In the lower level of the west unit a large door is located in the north wall. The
header beam for this door has to be reinforced as shown in the attached
section SX1. A new 13.5 feet long MC9x25.4 steel channel has to be installed
on the inside of the (3) —2x10 header as shown in this detail.
6. No other items were noted.
