General Information: This application is required for all proposals involving minor changes to buildings and site improve-
ments, such as roofing, painting, window additions, landscaping, fences, retaining walls, etc. Applicable Vail Town
Code sections can be found at www.vailgov.com under Vail Information—Town Code Online. All projects requiring de-
sign review must receive approval prior to submitting a building permit application. An application for Design Review
cannot be accepted until all required information is received by the Community Development Department, as outlined in
the submittal requirements. The project may also need to be reviewed by the Town Council and/or the Planning and
Environmental Commission. Design review approval expires one year from the date of approval, unless a building per-

Steve,
Beck Building Co. has been contracted to replace windows at the Chernick residence, unit 30, Vail Village Plaza
Condominiums. I have attached photographs with asterisks showing exactly which windows will be replaced. We
are replacing the entire window and frame in all cases, and all but the sliding glass doors, will have triple pane
glazing for energy conservation.
We are also assuming that the existing horizontal pipe rails at the sliding glass and French doors will have to be
modified to meet current building code that requires that guard rails have spacing less than 4 inches between the
bars. We would do this by adding a smaller diameter rail between each existing rail. These will be white to match
the existing railing color, although I have drawn them in with a blue pen.
Finally, we will be replacing glass only at the south facing skylights on the roof over the sun room and above the
loft area with Solar ban glazing. This should not have any aesthetic impact on the building.
We hope to start the work shortly after Vail Mountain closes, but we do have to get HOA approval before we can
submit DRB and building permit applications to the TOV.
We also need to communicate with the affected shop owners about the work and schedule. We did have some
preliminary discussions with Rayla Kundolf at the art gallery last Fall.
Please review the attached photos and let me know if further information is required. Also please advise as to the
timing on getting HOA approval.

Attached is the Window Replacement Permit Application for 100 E. Meadow Dr. unit 30, that we
have been discussing over the past few days. This Application has the updated Jeld Wenn
window schedule attached that identifies windows that have Opening Control Devices per your
request.
Per Warren Campell's request, I have verified that the existing pipe rails that we are proposing to
modify by adding additional horizontal rails, are the only such rails on this building. It was my
understanding that assuming that this was the case, Warren would be able to give us staff
approval on this modification. I have attached the Application for Design Review Minor Exterior
Application with the proposed railing change illustrated on the photos attached to the Application.
Please review the attached information and let me know if you or Warren have any questions or
further information needs.
