Project: Ford park upper bench Phone: 970-949-0257 Project No.: 12027 Date: 04/30/2013 Re: Grease duct-to-fan connection Michael, As per you request we are providing you with our letter specifying the grease duct-to-fan connection in the Concession Center in Ford park in Vail. Per the code IMC 2009 section 506.3.2.3 the grease duct shall be connected to the fan via a gasketed flange. The gasket shall be rated to no less than 1500° F and the connection should allow fan replacement or service of the fan. Based on that, the silicon sealant cannot be used for duct-to-fan connection. If a sealant is used, it can be applied for duct joints if the duct is manufactured by a manufacturer (e.g. CaptiveAire Grease ductwork) using clamps for connections. In that case the features of the sealant shall be: 1) Must comply with class 25 of ASTM 920 2) Rated for 1500° F or more (e.g. CaptiveAire recommends 2000° F) 3) Provides up to 4 hour fire rating Let me know, if this answers your questions.
