Lot 10, Block 2, Vai1 Village Filing No. 12 P.O. Box 678 3080 Booth Fa11s Court,East Vail Snowmass CO 81654 Eagle County, Colorado Project No. 12059 Dear Alan: At your request, on May 22, 2013,we visited the construction site for the proposed new duplex residences on Lot 10, Block 2, Vail Village Filing No. 12, 3080 Booth Falls Court, East Vail, Eagle County, Colorado. The purpose of our site visit was to observe the soils exposed in the foundation excavations for proposed South Unit of the duplex,Unit B, and compare thein with the findings and recommendations of the Soil and Foundation Investigation Report, under the same project number, dated October 13, 2012. The excavation consisted of one large bench, and a"U" shaped trench on the south part of the unit. The excavation cuts, ranged from about three feet on the southeast corner to about 10 feet between the two units. The soil exposed in the foundation excavation consisted of reddish-brown, silry to clayey, sandy gravel with cobbles and boulders. The soil exposed in the excavation was consistent with the findings and recoinmendations of the above-named soil's report. The soil exposed in the foundation excavation for the proposed Duplex B (the south unit) is suitable for the designed mcrximum allowable soil bearing pressure of 3000 psf. There was standing water on the upper, large bench of the excavation for the south unit from the rain the night before. We talked with Tere Nottingham that they will either wait for the water to dry out until the subgrade is firm or remove the soft and wet soil. Also there was one spot on the east trench where they had removed a boulder(about 2 foot diameter) and had backfilled the hole with loose soil. This area wi11 have to be compacted in lifts or filled with lean concrete. We also, recommend compliance with the recommendations of the above-named soil report during the remainder of the construction, specifically with the sections on drainage, grading and irrigation. Signs of fluctuating ground water were observed in the southwest corner of the excavation for the south unit. The foundation walls on the south half of the excavation should be waterproofed in addition to the periineter drain. If there isn't a sufficient slope to discharge the drain to daylight a sump with a pump should be constructed. This report has been prepared according to locally accepted Professional Geotechnical Engineering standards for similar methods of testing and soil conditions at this time. The findings and recommendation stated above are based on the soil conditions observed and tested in the foundation excavation only. There is no other warranty either expressed or implied. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. Sincerely, LKP Engineering,Inc. Luiza Petrovska,PE J:\ WP X4-LKP\2012\12059open-UnitB.wpd P.O. Box 2837, Edwards, CO 81632 Tel: 970-926-9088
