The Cover Plate/Retainer Assembly con- ceals the sprinkler operating compo- nents above the ceiling. The flat profile of the Cover Plate provides the optimum aesthetically appealing sprinkler design. Additionally, the concealed design of the Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Con- cealed Pendent Sprinklers provides 1/2 inch (12,7 mm) vertical adjustment. This adjustment provides a measure of flex- ibility when cutting fixed sprinkler drops. The Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinklers are in- tended for use in the following systems: • wet and dry pipe residential sprin- kler systems for one- and two-fam- ily dwellings and mobile homes per NFPA 13D • wet and dry pipe residential sprin- kler systems for residential occu- pancies up to and including four sto- ries in height per NFPA 13R • wet and dry pipe sprinkler systems for the residential portions of any occupancy per NFPA 13 The Series LFII Residential Sprinklers have been designed with heat sensitiv- ity and water distribution characteristics proven to help in the control of residen- tial fires and to improve the chance for occupants to escape or be evacuated. The Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinklers are shipped with a Disposable Protective Cap. The Protective Cap protects the sprinkler during ceiling installation or finish. After ceiling installation is com- plete, the Protective Cap is removed and the Cover Plate/Retainer Assem- bly is installed. Removing the Protec- tive Cap is required for proper sprinkler performance. Dry Pipe System Application The Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinkler offers a laboratory approved option for design- ing dry pipe residential sprinkler sys- tems, whereas, most residential sprin- klers are laboratory approved for wet systems only. Through extensive testing, it has been determined that the number of design sprinklers (hydraulic design area) for the Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Con- cealed Sprinklers (TY2524) need not be increased over the number of design sprinklers (hydraulic design area) speci- fied for wet pipe sprinkler systems, as is customary for density/area sprinkler systems designed per NFPA 13, 13D, or 13R. Consequently, the Series LFII Residen- tial Flat-Plate Concealed Sprinklers (TY2524) offer the features of non-wa- ter filled pipe in addition to not having to increase the number of design sprinklers (hydraulic design area) for systems de- signed to NFPA 13, 13D, or 13R. Non- water filled pipe will permit options for areas sensitive to freezing. NOTICE The Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinklers (TY2524) described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this doc- ument and the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association, in addition to the standards of any au- thorities having jurisdiction. Failure to do so may impair the performance of these devices. The owner is responsible for maintain- ing their fire protection system and de- vices in proper operating condition. The installing contractor or sprinkler manu- facturer should be contacted with any questions. Sprinkler Identification Number (SIN) TY2524 IMPORTANT Always refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP700 for the “INSTALLER WARNING” that provides cautions with respect to handling and instal- lation of sprinkler systems and com- ponents. Improper handling and in- stallation can permanently damage a sprinkler system or its components and cause the sprinkler to fail to operate in a fire situation or cause it to operate prematurely. When the rated temperature is reached, the sol- der melts and the two link halves sepa- rate, allowing the sprinkler to activate and flow water. Design Criteria The TYCO RAPID RESPONSE Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinklers (TY2524) are UL and C-UL Listed for installation in ac- cordance with this section: Residential Sprinkler Design Guide When conditions exist that are outside the scope of the provided criteria, re- fer to the Residential Sprinkler Design Guide TFP490 for the manufacturer's recommendations that may be accept- able to the authority having jurisdiction. System Type Per the UL Listing, wet pipe and dry pipe systems may be utilized. Per the C-UL Listing, only wet pipe systems may be utilized. Refer to Technical Data Sheet TFP485 about the use of Residential Sprinklers in residential dry pipe systems. Ceiling Types Smooth flat horizontal, or beamed, or sloped, in accordance with the 2013 Edition of NFPA 13D, 13R or 13 as applicable. Hydraulic Design (NFPA 13D and 13R) For systems designed to NFPA 13D or NFPA 13R, the minimum required sprin- kler flow rate are given in Tables A and B as a function of temperature rating and the maximum allowable coverage areas. The sprinkler flow rate is the mini- mum required discharge from each of the total number of “design sprinklers” as specified in NFPA 13D or NFPA 13R. The number of “design sprinklers” spec- ified in NFPA 13D and 13R for wet pipe systems is to be applied when designing dry pipe systems. Hydraulic Design (NFPA 13) For systems designed to NFPA 13, the number of design sprinklers is to be the four most hydraulically demanding sprinklers. The minimum required dis- charge from each of the four sprinklers is to be the greater of the following: • The flow rates given in Tables A and B as a function of temperature rating and the maximum allowable cover- age area • A minimum discharge of 0.1 gpm/ft2. over the “design area” comprised of the four most hydraulically demand- ing sprinklers for the actual coverage areas being protected by the four sprinklers The number of “design sprinklers” specified in NFPA 13 for wet pipe sys- tems is to be applied when designing dry pipe systems. Dry Pipe System Water Delivery When using the Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinklers (TY2524) in dry pipe sprinkler systems, the time for water delivery must not ex- ceed 15 seconds for the most remote operating sprinkler. Obstruction to Water Distribution. Sprinklers are to be located in accor- dance with the obstruction rules of NFPA 13D, 13R, and 13 as applicable for residential sprinklers as well as with the obstruction criteria described within the Technical Data Sheet TFP490. Operational Sensitivity Install sprinklers relative to the ceiling mounting surface as shown in Figure 3. The Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinklers must not be used in applications where the air pressure above the ceiling is greater than that below. Down drafts through the Support Cup can delay sprinkler op- eration in a fire situation. Sprinkler Spacing The minimum spacing between sprin- klers is 8 feet (2,4 m). The maximum spacing between sprinklers cannot ex- ceed the length of the coverage area (Table A) being hydraulically calculated (e.g., a maximum of 12 feet for a 12 ft. x 12 ft. coverage area or 20 feet for a 20 ft. x 20 ft. coverage area.) TABLE B DRY PIPE SYSTEM SERIES LFII RESIDENTIAL FLAT-PLATE CONCEALED PENDENT SPRINKLER (TY2524) NFPA 13D, 13R, AND 13 HYDRAULIC DESIGN CRITERIA TFP443 Page 5 of 6 Installation The TYCO RAPID RESPONSE Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with this section: General Instructions Damage to the Solder Link Element dur- ing installation can be avoided by han- dling the sprinkler by the Support Cup only; that is, do not apply pressure to the Solder Link Element (Figure 1). A leak-tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained by applying a min- imum-to-maximum torque of 7 to 14 ft.-lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). Higher levels of torque can distort the sprinkler inlet with consequent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Do not attempt to compensate for insuf- ficient adjustment in the Cover Plate/ Retainer Assembly by under- or over- tightening the sprinkler. Re-adjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. Step 1. Install pendent sprinklers in the pendent position, with the center- line of the sprinkler perpendicular to the mounting surface. Step 2. Remove the Protective Cap. Step 3. With pipe-thread sealant ap- plied to the pipe threads, and using the W-Type 18 Wrench shown in Figure 2, install and tighten the Sprinkler/Sup- port Cup Assembly into the fitting. The W-Type 18 Wrench accepts a 1/2 inch ratchet drive. Step 4. Replace the Protective Cap by pushing it upwards until it bottoms out against the Support Cup. The Protec- tive Cap helps prevent damage to the Deflector and Guide Pins during ceiling installation and/or during application of the finish coating of the ceiling. NOTICE As long as the protective Cap remains in place, the system is considered “Out Of Service”. Step 5. After the ceiling has been com- pleted with the 2-1/2 inch (63 mm) diam- eter hole and in preparation for install- ing the Cover Plate/Retainer Assembly, remove and discard the Protective Cap, and verify that the Deflector moves up and down freely. If the sprinkler has been damaged and the deflector does not move up and down freely, replace the entire sprinkler assembly. Do not attempt to modify or repair a damaged sprinkler. Step 6. Screw on the Cover Plate/Re- tainer Assembly until its flange contacts the ceiling. Do not continue to screw on the Cover Plate/Retainer Assembly such that it lifts a ceiling panel out of its normal position. If the Cover Plate/Retainer Assembly cannot be engaged with the Mounting Cup or the Cover Plate/Retainer Assem- bly cannot be engaged sufficiently to contact the ceiling, the Sprinkler Fitting must be repositioned. Care and Maintenance The TYCO RAPID RESPONSE Series LFII Residential Flat-Plate Concealed Pendent Sprinkler (TY2524) must be maintained and serviced in accordance with ths section: Before closing a fire protection system main control valve for maintenance work on the fire protection system that it con- trols, obtain permission to shut down the affected fire protection system from the proper authorities and notify all person- nel who may be affected by this action. Absence of a Cover Plate may delay the sprinkler operation in a fire situation. The owner must assure that the sprin- klers are not used for hanging any ob- jects and that the sprinklers are only cleaned by means of gently dusting with a feather duster; otherwise, non-opera- tion in the event of a fire or inadvertent operation may result. When properly installed, there is a nomi- nal 1/8 inch (3,2 mm) air gap between the lip of the Cover Plate and the ceil- ing, as shown in Figure 3. This air gap is necessary for proper operation of the sprinkler by allowing heat flow from a fire to pass below and above the Cover Plate to help assure appropriate release of the Cover Plate in a fire situation. If the ceiling needs repainting after sprinkler installation, exercise care to ensure that the new paint does not seal off any of the air gap. Failure to do so may impair sprinkler operation. Factory painted Cover Plates must not be repainted. They should be replaced, if necessary, by factory painted units. Non-factory applied paint may adversely delay or prevent sprinkler operation in the event of a fire. Do not pull the Cover Plate relative to the Retainer. Separation may result. Sprinklers which are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated, or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modi- fied or overheated sprinklers must be replaced. Care must be exercised to avoid dam- age to the sprinklers - before, during, and after installation. Sprinklers dam- aged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/ slippage, or the like, must be replaced. The owner is responsible for the in- spection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and devices in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the stan- dards of any other authorities having ju- risdiction. Contact the installing contrac- tor or sprinkler manufacturer regarding any questions. Automatic sprinkler systems are rec- ommended to be inspected, tested, and maintained by a qualified Inspec- tion Service in accordance with local requirements and/or national codes. Because of the accuracy of construc tion and design, copper plumbing is more efficient and less expensive. NIBCO manufactures nine general types of fittings: Wrot Pressure; Cast Pressure; Wrot Drainage; Cast Drainage; Flanges; Flared Tube; Threaded Bronze; Insert Fittings for PEX; Barbed Insert Fittings for Polybutylene. Each has its particular place and use and each offers its own advantages when used for the proper service requirement. ALLOY AND FINISH — NIBCO Fittings are made from highest quality raw materials available — Cast Fittings are made from Copper Alloy C84400 which consists of 81% Copper, 7% Lead, 3% Tin, and 9% Zinc per ASTM Specification B584. Wrot Copper Fittings are made from commercially pure copper mill products per ASTM Specifications B75 Alloy C12200. NIBCO fittings are produced to meet requirements of applicable standards wherever practicable. NIBCO brand wrot and cast fittings are manufactured in the U.S.A. and Mexico. The manufacturing plants at Stuarts Draft, VA, Nacogdoches, TX and Reynosa, Mexico are registered to ISO 9002 quality standards. Following is suggested phrasing to be incorporated in your specifications or bills of material for Copper Tube Fittings. No. 3921989, Canadian Pat. No. 1009680 Other Patents Pending The Model VSR-SF is a vane type waterflow switch for use on wet sprinkler systems that use 1" (25mm), 1 1/4" (32mm), 1 1/2" (38mm) or 2" (50mm) pipe size. The unit may also be used as a sectional waterflow detector on large systems. The unit contains two single pole double throw snap action switches and an adjustable, instantly recycling pneumatic re- tard. The switches are actuated when a flow of 8-10 gallons per minute (30-38 Lpm) or more occurs downstream of the device. The flow condition must exist for a period of time necessary to overcome the selected retard period. INSTALLATION: These devices may be mounted in horizontal or vertical pipe. On horizontal pipe they should be installed on the top side of the pipe where they will be accessible. The units should not be installed within 6" (15cm) of a valve, drain or fitting which changes the direction of the waterflow. The unit has a 1" NPT bushing for threading into a non-corrosive TEE. See Fig. 2 for proper TEE size, type and installation. Screw the device into the TEE fitting as shown in Fig. 2. Care must be taken to properly orient the device for the direction of waterflow. The vane must not rub the inside of the TEE or bind in any way. The stem should move freely when operated by hand. The device can also be used in copper or plastic pipe installa- tions with the proper adapters so that the specified TEE fitting may be installed on the pipe run. INSPECTION AND TESTING: Check the operation of the unit by opening the inspector’s test valve at the end of the sprinkler line or the drain and test connection, if an inspector’s test valve is not provided. If there are no provisions for testing the operation of the flow detection device on the system, application of the VSR-SF is not recommended or advisable The frequency of the inspection and testing and its associated protective monitoring system should be in accordance with the applicable NFPA Codes and Standards and/or authority having jurisdiction (manufacturer recommends quarterly or more fre- quently). These paddles have raised lettering that shows the pipe size and type of TEE that they are to be used with. The proper paddle must be used. The paddle must be properly attached (see drawing) and the screw that holds the pad- dle must be securely tight- ened. FIG. 2 NOTES: 1.The model VSR-SF has two switches, one can be used to operate a central station, proprietary or remote signal- ing unit, while the other is used to operate a local au- dible or visual annunciator. 2.For supervised circuits see “Switch Terminal Connec- tions” drawing and caution note (Fig. 3). FIG. 4 TYPICAL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS Retard Adjustment: To change time, turn knob (either direction) for desired time delay. Use the minimum amount of retard necessary to prevent false alarms. A “B” setting is usually adequate for this. Factory set at “B”. FIG. 3 SWITCH TERMINAL CONNECTIONS CLAMPING PLATE TERMINAL FIG. 5 To remove knockouts: Place screwdriver at edge of knock- outs, not in the center. APPLICATION WARNING! Due to the possibility of unintended discharges caused by pressure surges, trapped air, or short retard times, waterflow switches that are monitoring wet pipe sprinkler systems should not be used as the sole initiating device to discharge AFFF, deluge, or chemical suppression systems. Screw the device into the tee fitting as shown. Care must be taken to properly orient the device for the direction of waterflow. On sweat tees, no threaded bushings, inserts, or adapters are permitted, unless they comply with the dimensions listed in the chart below. Important - The depth to the inside bottom of the tee should have the following dimensions: PRINTED IN USA RBVS UNIVERSAL BALL VALVE SWITCH PAGE 1 OF 2MFG.# 5401086 - REV U 5/08 US Patent No. 6,945,509 General The Model RBVS is designed to monitor the fully open position of a ball valve installed in a sprinkler system. The unit will fi t on most ball valves installed on back-fl ow-preventers and alarm trim lines of dry, alarm, and deluge sprinkler valves. The switch operates if the ball valve handle is moved from the open position. However, the switch does not track the position of the handle or ball. When the ball valve handle is in the open position, a spring-loaded switch button will contact the valve handle. When the handle is moved from the open position, this switch button extends to the tripped position, and the RBVS contacts change state, thereby opening or closing a circuit. A cover tamper switch is available and is activated by the removal of the RBVS housing cover. If an attempt is made to remove the RBVS by the removal of the mounting brackets, the unit will be set into the tripped mode by this action. The RBVS can be mounted to the hex portion of the ball valve or back-fl ow- preventer or to the adjoining pipe via two clamps. The RBVS is shipped with two sets of mounting clamps to accommodate various pipe and valve sizes, refer to Table 1. An "L" shaped and offset bracket for mounting the switch enclosure and an extension bracket add to the mounting fl exibility of the RBVS. See "Typical Mounting Diagram" and "Installation and Operation" on following page. Testing The RBVS and its associated protective monitoring system should be tested in accordance with applicable NFPA codes and standards and/or the authority having jurisdiction (manufacturer recommends quarterly or more frequently).
