� You must obt,ain Design Review Board (DRB� approval if any of the mechanical work will involve
ANY exterior work.This includes and is not limited to removal and replacement of driveway snow
melt systems. Please contact a Planner at 479-2128 for additional information.
• The Town of Vail has adopted the 2003 International Mechanical Code and ti�e 2003 International `
Fuel Gas Code.
• All new canstruction within the Town of Vail is �cons4dered to be of unusually tight construction,
tt�us a!I combustion air is required to be drawn from outside t�e structure for mechanical
equipment.

In September of 1991,the Nail Town Cauncil adopted an ordinance wh%ch restricts te canstruction and
use vfi open hearth freplaces within municipal baundaries. Since that t�m� the ordinartce has
undergo�e numerous changes and r�visions, striving for comprornise,yet effectiveness in addressing
the air quality issue. Ther�fvre the following criteria has 6een adopt�d:
• Construct»on of open hearth wood burning Freplaces is no longer permitted within Town af Vail
municipal bounclari�s.
♦ Dwefling Units— Eact� new dwelling unit may cx�ntain:
One(1) EPA Phase II c�rtifi�solid fuel burning device and na more than two(2)gas appliances
(B vent)
oR
Two (2) gas log fireplaces and no more than hnro (2) gas appliance freplaces (B bent). -
♦ Restricted Dwe[linq Units— Each new restricted dwelling unit may contain:
O�e (1) gas log fireplace and not more than one {i) gas appliance fireplace.
♦ A�commodatian Units— Each new accommodation unit may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplace or one (1) gas applianoe fireplace.
• If two or more separate dwelling un�ts or accommadation units are combined to form one larger
unit,the combined ur�it may retain one woodburning fireplace (if one already exists) and no more
than 2 gas applianc�freplaces, ar may convert up to two existing fireplaces to gas.
♦ If during the cou�se of a remodel an existing woodburning fireplace is altered ar moved, the unit
must then comply with all �provisions of the ordinance. T'�at is, tl�e fireplace must be canverked to
naturai gas or replaced by an EPA Phase II certified u�it�
