Fuei Gas Co�e.
♦ All new construct�on within the Town af Nai� is considered to be af unusualty tight construction,
. thus all combustion air :i� ,requified to be drawn from ou#side the structure for mechanica�
equiprnent. � . . . . ` �
Town of Vail Firealace Ordinance
In Septembe�of 1991,the Vail Town Council adopted an ordinance which rest�icts te constructian and
e�se of open hearth fir�places within municipal boundaries. Since that time the ordinance has
�ndergone numerous changes and revisions, strivi�g for compromise,yet effectiveness in addressing
the air quality issue. Therefore#he following criteria f�as been adopted;
� Construction of open hearth wood burning fireplaces is no longer permitted within Town of Vai�
rnunicipa[ boundaries.
♦ Dwellinq Units—fach nev+r dwelling unit may contain: .
One (i) EPA Phase II certified solid fuel burning device and nv naore than two(2)gas appliances
(B vent)
OR
Two (2) gas log fireplaces and no more than two {2} gas appliance fireplaces (B bent).
• Restri+cted Dw�lling Units— Each new restricted dwelling unit may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplac� and not more t�an one (l) gas appliance firepla�e. �
♦ Accommodation Units — Each new accommociation unit may contain:
On� (1) gas log fireplace or one (1) gas appliance fireplace.
� If two ar more separate cfwelling units or accommodation units are combined to form one larger
unit,#he combined unit may retain one woodburning fireplace (if one already exists) and no more
than 2 gas appliance�repfaces, ar may co�vert up to two existing fireplaces to gas.
♦ If dur�ng the course of a r�modei an existing waodburning firep�ace is altered or moved, the unit
must then comply with a[1 provisions of the ordinance.That is,the fireplace must be converted to
natural gas or replaced by an EPA Phase II certified unit.
