ANY exterior work.This includeS and is not I�mited to removal and replac�ment of driveway sr�ow
melt systems. P�ease contact a Planner at 479-2x28 for addi#ironal ir�formation.
♦ The Town of Vail has adopted the 2003 Inter�atio�al Mechar�ical Code and the 2003 International
Fuei Gas Code.
♦ All new construcfion within the Town o�Vail is considered to be o� unus�ally tight constr�ction,
thus all combustion air is required to be drawn from o�tside the structure for mechanical
equ�pment.

�n Se�tember of 1991,the Vail Town�Council adopted an ordinance which restricts te constr�ction and
use of open hearth fireplaces v►rithin municipal bo�ndaries. Since tha� time the ordinance has
undergor�e numeraus c'�anges and re�isions, striving for compromise,yet effectiveness in addressin�
th� air quality issue. Th�refore the following criteria has beer� adopted:
♦ Construction of open hearth wood burning fireplaces is no longer permitted within Town of Vail
municipal bo�ndaries. `

♦ Dwellin4 U�nits-- Each new dw�elling unit may cantain:
Orre(i) EPA Phase YI certified solid fuel burning device and no more than two(�)gas ap�liances

Two (2) gas log freplaces and no more than two {�) gas appliance�replaces (B bent}.
♦ Restricted Dwel�in4 Units— Each ne�uv restr�cted dweiling unit may co�tain:
One (1) gas Iog fireplace and not more than one (1) gas appliance fireplace.
♦ Accommodation Units— Each new accommodation unit may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplace or ane (1) gas appliance fireplace.
• �^�two or more separate dwelling units or a�commodation units are co�nbined to form one larger
unit,the combi�ed unit may retaEn one woodburni�g fireptace (if on�a�ready exists) and no rnore
than 3 gas appliance fireplaces, or may conv�rt up to t�o existing fireplaces to gas,
♦ If durieg the course of a remodel an existing woodburnin4 freplace is altered or moved, the unit
must thera comply with all provisions of the ordinance. That is, the fireplace must t�e c4nverted to
natural gas or replaced by an EPA Phase II certified unit.
