Field Report
The following items were observed:
The purpose of this inspection was to coordinate the connections of some of the new framing to the existing CMU
walls. Four different framing conditions were addressed during this meeting. We also discussed a couple of
concrete pour situations.
The first framing item was the support of the west end of the lintel over the new entry. Since there will be very little
CMU remaining at this end, we agreed to support the west end with a 4x4x1/4 tube steel column. Cap and base plate
details are attached.
Secondly, we addressed the connection of the north end of the triple 1 3/4x 9 1/4 LVL to the CMU wall over the
Master Bath. This beam currently bears on the CMU wall and has one vertical 2x6 bolted to the wall for additional
bearing area. Jake will add one additional 2x6 to the face of the existing 2x6. This is to be glued with PL400 and
nailed with two staggered rows l Od @ 6" on center.
The third framing item we discussed was the connection of the north end of the W 8x35 over the Master Suite to the
CMU wall. . This beam currently bears on non-grouted CMU. Jake will grout the cell below this beam and add a
vertical pair of 3x3xl/4 angles to the face of the CMU wall to create additional bearing. The detail of this assembly
is attached.
The connection of the triple LVL header to the CMU wall at the Junior Suite was ,the fourth item addressed. Jake
will conthxn that the cells under both ends of this header are grouted solid. He will pack out the bearing under the
ends with treated 2x bearing plates between the bottom of the header and the top of the existing CMU. He will then
add a vertical 2x6 on the inside face of the CMU wall that will lap the header, bearing plates and the CMU wall.
This will be glued to the wood members with PL400 and screwed with LL005 LedgerLok fasteners @ 3" on center.
It will also be attached to the face of the CMU wall with two ''/3" diameter x 6" expansion bolts. This detail will also
be used at a couple of other wood header situations.
We discussed the concrete slab step detail (Section A/Sl.01) during this meeting. Trent would prefer to do two
pours instead of the monolithic pour currently detailed. The revised detail is attached.
Finally we covered the edge of patio slab detail for the south patio off of the Living Room. Once this slab is
lowered, the adjacent grade will be higher than the patio. A concrete wall will be poured around this new slab to
retain the grade. I advised Trent and Jake that Section D/51.01 could be used for this location.
