Vail, CO 81657 3:00 PM, Thursday June 9, 2011 AGENDA Meeting Called to Order by Kathy Langenwalter at 3:05 Roll Call Absent Lynn Fritzlen ( has formally resigned) Chair Present; Kathy Langenwalter, Vice Chair Mark Mueller Rich Seth Steve Loftus Kyle Webb Rollie Kjesbo Review and take action for possible support of a policy by the Town of Vail Fire Department and Building Department in regards to glycol mix requirements for fire sprinkler systems in the Town of Vail, Colorado Martin Haeberle presented policy from Vail Fire Department, Mike Vaughan was not able to attend due to a structure fire. The policy is to allow 50/50 glycol as in the past for fire sprinkler systems. The reason for the policy was that recently NFPA came out with an amendment to the mixture that would not work in Vail’s climatic conditions without failure due too freezing. This would happen where system are not in a conditioned space Martin further explained that support of the Board is requested in that the new amendment was established due to an incident of a fire being caused by a highly enriched glycol sprinkler system. The published amendment would not allow for protection of the sprinkler system at low temperatures thereby putting the system and structures at risk during low temperatures. The building department is also in support of the proposed policy and believed it to be in the best interest of the citizens of Vail as well as the public at large. Discussion was made on the limitation of the policy to existing structures only. Steve Loftus made a motion to approve the policy contingent on the document being revised to include all structures new and existing and be in effect until such time as an acceptable alternative is made available. Seconded by Rollie Kjesbo Motion was passed unanimously 2. Items for the July 14, 2011 meeting.
