Minor Exterior Alteration
General Information: This application is required for all proposals involving minor changes to buildings and site
improvements, such as roofing, painting, window additions, landscaping, fences, retaining walls, etc. Applicable Vail
Town Code sections can be found at www.vailgov.com under Vail Information - Town Code Online. All projects requiring
design review must receive approval prior to submitting a building permit application. An application for Design Review
cannot be accepted until all required information is received by the Community Development Department, as outlined in
the submittal requirements. The project may also need to be reviewed by the Town Council and /or the Planning and
Environmental Commission. Design review approval expires one year from the date of approval, unless a building permit
is issued and construction commences.

• Remove existing wood wall and replace with a two tiered boulder wall consisting of boulders of
the same size, color and type as the average boulders (not the smallest) used in all walls on the
west side. The wall will tie in to the wall on the west side and be no higher than 3'6 ".
• 25' max distance from existing house to nose of new boulder wall. (Currently, distance varies
from 23' to 25'). The toe of the new wall will be placed in the same location as the toe of the
existing wall.
• 18" maximum width at any point of the transition areas between the existing driveway edge to
any surface of a boulder in the wall. This varies due to the fact that boulders are not square.
Transition area to be filled with natural ground cover like Thyme or other and maintained by the
owner so as not to be dirt or mud.
• Currently, the planter consists of numerous bushes and one aspen tree on east end. There are
also a lot of natural flowers, ground cover, and weeds. They fill the planter completely. If any
bushes are removed or damaged during construction, they will be replaced with 2 new bushes
of similar type. Disturbed areas will be replanted with similar ground cover and, if space allows,
additional bushes such as Potentillas, Red Tig Dogwood, or similar alpine plants. The area will
be maintained and kept weed free in the future.
• All weeds will be removed and all existing bushes will be trimmed.
• Owner will contract to have planter area watered through the end of the 2013 growing season
to establish plantings. Owner responsible for water sufficient for plants to survive beyond that
growing season into the future so that planter is filled with healthy landscaping free of weeds
and dead mateial.
• If any plantings, whether existing or new, die at any time, owner will replace with like plants
immediately.
• No expansion of driveway pavement.
• Owner shall obtain approval from adjacent duplex owner for changes, whether required by TOV
or otherwise.
