Asbestos testing and abatement protects workers, homeowners, neighbors and emergency services responders from ex-
posure to harmful asbestos. The Town of Vail asbestos abatement program is in addition to the State of Colorado's regu-
lations. It is your responsibility to be in compliance with the State. Please contact the State directly for their requirements
at the contact info listed below.
When is asbestos testing required?
ANY building projects disturbing more than these threshold levels of building materials require asbestos testing:
One- and Two-Family Dwellings: 32 square feet
All Others (commercial spaces, hotel rooms, etc): 160 square feet
Definition of a single-family dwelling: any dwelling unit that is used primarily for a single family, including
multi-family/condominium units, and fractional fee units.
Asbestos testing results must be provided with your application for a building permit.
Tests which identify POSITIVE results at more than 1% require abatement by a State-certified and Vail-registered abate-
ment contractor. An asbestos abatement permit must be approved, and the clearance letter must be submitted to the
Town of Vail before the building permit will be issued.

much of the original 1989 EPA ban on the U.S. manufacturing, importation, processing, or distribution in commerce

Per your request, and under the guidelines defined, HERRON� Enterprises USA, Inc. (HERRON�) has concluded the
Environmental Consultation/Limited Asbestos Building Inspection at the aforementioned property.
Local, state and/or federal regulations, including but not limited to the Air Quality Control Division (AQCC) Regulation 8,
OSHA 1926.1101, and EPA (NESHAP) 40 CFR Part 61 may require a comprehensive asbestos inspection prior to a
renovation or demolition. This inspection requires an AHERA and State certified asbestos building inspector identifying and
sampling any friable and non-friable asbestos containing materials which could be affected by the activity.
HERRON�was contracted by the Client,to perform:

and Non-Friable Suspect Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM), associated with the aforementioned property,

Recommendations
As Regulated Asbestos Containing Materials were not discovered during this inspection, further action is not required.
Conclusion
Based on the information generated by this report, we conclude that the aforementioned property does not have Regulated
Asbestos Containing Material(s) (RAC1Vn, in accordance with local,state, and/or federal regulations for purposes of a
renovation or demolition(when conducted in accordance with local, state and/or federal regulations).
In order to comply with local, state, and/or federal regulations, the following ACM, or assumed ACM will have to be
removed if they will be affected by the renovation:
None Detected.
Materials that contain <=1.0%Asbestos are not considered Asbestos Containing Materials by NESHAPS or EPA but may
still be covered by OSHA. OSHA regulations may apply during potential disturbance activities.
Although a material may have been determined to contain <=1.0% Asbestos, or during a demolition, if the composition of
drywall/joint compound(when the joint compound does not cover the entire surface)has been determined to contain<=1.0%
Asbestos, this document serves as a Hazard Communication and should be followed during an activity such as a renovation
or demolition, to ensure that an exposure does not occur. The MaYimum Allowable Asbestos Level (MAAL) may not be
exceeded at `any' time in accordance with local, state, and/or federal regulations, including but not limited to AQCC
Regulation 8(State),29 CFR 1926.1101 (OSHA),40 CFR Part 61 EPA(NESHAP),and 40 CFR 763 EPA(AHERA).

Suspect materials which were not within the Scope of Work at the time of the inspection were:
1. `All' EPA suspect Materials not requested.
2. `Any' confirmed or suspect ACM which may have been concealed at the time of the inspection.
3. During a normal inspection, and more specifically when non-destructive sampling techniques are employed, it is not
within the scope of the inspection to remove surface materials to inspect the structures and/or materials which may be
under the surface, i.e., within or under concealed areas such as under carpet, under sub-floors, within chases, walls,
crawlspaces, tunnels, etc., to remove suspect Asbestos Containing Material(s), to move and/or sample electrical wiring
which has not been 'locked out', etc. All said areas are to be assumed as containing >1.0% Asbestos, until such a time
that these areas are made accessible,and/or rendered safe so that sampling can be performed.
4. HERRON� recommends extreme caution during a renovation or demolition of these areas in the event that an area
which was not suspect, visible, accessible and/or specified during the inspection, is discovered to contain or is suspected
of containing an Asbestos Containing Material (ACM). Under local, state and/or federal regulations, should such an
event occur,the Client and or Contractor is required to cease operations which may effect this(these)material(s)until an
inspection is concluded and a determination is made by an AHERA and State Certified Asbestos Building Inspector.

Lot 10, Block 2, Lions Ridge, 14b4 Aspen Grove Lane, Vail, Colorado
Dear Steve:
As requested, a representative of Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. observed the
excavation at the subject site on May 27 and June l, 2010 to evaluate the soils exposed
for foundation support. The findings of our abservations and recommendations fnr the
foundation design are presented in this report. The services were performed in general
accordance with our agreement for professional engineering services to SRE Builders,
Inc., dated May 24, 2010.
We previously provided an update to a subsoil study report for the original residence at
the site, submitting our findings in a report dated November 3, 2009, under our Job No.
109 377A. The previous subsoil study was prepared by Chen and Associates, dated
August 31, 1987, Job No. 4 334 87. We have been provided a copy of that report.
The proposed construction is similar to that discussed in our 2009 report. The addition
areas have been designed to be supported on spread footings using an allowable soil
bearing pressure of 1,500 psf, as recommended in the previous reports. The addition
areas will be supported on isolated pads for the deck and entryway, and continuous
footings for the building portion. The existing residence is founded on shallow spread
footings and no signs of excessive foundation settlement and distress have been reported.
One area of the existing structure foundation will have increased soil bearing pressure to
1,800 psf due the loading from the building area addition.
At the time of our May 27 site visit, the foundation excavation for the addition areas had
been cut in three levels from about 4 to 8 feet below the adjacent ground surface. The
soils exposed in the bottom of the excavations consisted primarily of nnedium stiff, very
silty clayey sand fill. At the building addition azea, the fill was about 6 inches deep (to
existing footing bearing grade) underlain by medium dense, silty clayey sand. Results of
swell-consolidation testing performed on samples taken from the site, shown on Figure 1,
indicate the natural silty clayey sand soils are slightly to moderately compressible and the
fill soils are moderately to highly compressible under conditions of loading and wetting.
No free water was encountered in the excavation and the natural soils were moist and the
fill very moist. At this time, we recommended the fill be removed to bear on the natural

sand soils with the exception of the lightly loaded entry area that can bear on the two
footing pads designed for an allowable soil bearing pressure of 1,000 ps� with a risk of
� settlement.
We returned to the site an June 1, after free water had been encountered as the excavation
for the continuous footing areas was deepened. When observed, the free water had
dissipated. The soils exposed in the continuous footing and deck addition pad areas
consisted af inedium dense, clayey silty sand that appeared firm.
Considering the conditions exposed in the excavations and the nature of the proposed
construction, spread footings placed on the undisturbed natural clayey sihy sand soil
designed for an allowable bearing pressure of 1,500 psf should be adequate for support of
� the proposed building and deck addition areas. It should be feasible to increase the
loading on the existing footing to 1,800 psf. The existing fill at the two entryway footing
pad areas appears suitable to support an allowable soil bearing pressure of 1,000 psfwith
a risk ofsettlement. The settlements wili probably be differential with respect to the
existing structure, especially for the entryway area, which should be considered in the
design. Prior to the footing construction, loose disturbed soils should be removed and the
subgrade cozripacted. Any water seepage into the excavations should be collected and
diverted away from the footing areas and any softened soils and mud removed before
concrete placement. Other recommendations presented in our previous report which are
applicable should also be observed.
The recommendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils
exposed within the foundation excavation and do not include subsurface exploration to
evaluate the subsurface conditions within the loaded depth of foundation influence. This
study is based on the assumption that soils beneath the footings have equal or better
support than those exposed. The risk of foundation movement may be greater than
indicated in this report because of possible variations in the subsurface conditions. In
order to reveal the nature and extent of variations in the subsurface conditions below the
excavation, drilling would be required. It is possible the data obtained by subsurface
� exploration could change the recommendations contained in this letter. If you have any
