Please see the below responses to your comments dated March 6, 2014 pertaining to project B14-
0024, "Added Rated Door @ Ski Storage Room" at the Four Seasons Vail. The required three sets of
revised construction documents are attached.

l. Clarify if the Ski storage area is conditioned space. If so show compliance with the IECC 2012
edition.
Response: Ski storage area is cor�ditioned space. Installation of new door to fully enclose room
brings it back into compliance with IECC 2012.
2. Please provide analysis clarifying the actual rating of the wall being penetrated. Also indicate
type of wall.
Respor�se: Existing wall is documented and constructed as a 2-hour wall. Wall type is a fully
grouted 8" CMU wall. Note has been revised on Sheet A-000.

Fire Door— Ski Storage Room
At your request, I have reviewed the installation of the referenced fire door. The door
opening was cut into an existing CMU wall, which based on my review of the existing
structure, is a non-bearing masonry partition. There are less than three (3) full courses
of block above the opening, before reaching the next structural slab. The opening was
framed by means of cutting in double L4x4x1/4 steel angles, and thru-bolting.
Based on my calculations and previous experience, it is my professional judgment that
this installation meets all applicable structural provisions of the 2012 IBC.
