General Information: This application is required for any sign that is located within the Town of Vail. All signs require
Design Review approval. Applicable Vail Town Code sections can be reviewed on -line at www.vailgov.com under Vail
Information —Town Code On -line (Title 11 Signs). An application for Design Review cannot be accepted until all re-
quired information is received by the Community Development Department. Design Review approval lapses unless sign
is installed within one year of the approval.

WRITTEN APPROVAL LETTER
The applicant must submit written joint property owner approval for applications affecting shared ownership properties
such as duplex, condominium, and multi- tenant buildings. This form, or similar written correspondence, must be com-
pleted by the adjoining duplex unit owner or the authorized agent of the home owner's association in the case of a con-
dominium or multi- tenant building. All completed forms must be submitted with the applicants completed application.

Pre - application Meeting
A pre - application meeting with Town of Vail Staff is not required; however, highly recommended. The purpose of a pre -
application meeting is to identify any critical issues pertaining to the proposal and to determine the appropriate development
review process for an application. Please call the Development Review Coordinator at 970 - 479 -2128 to schedule.
Deadlines and Meeting Dates
The Design Review Board meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month beginning at 3:00 pm. Complete
applications are due in the Office of Community Development no later than 12:00 noon on the submittal deadlines below:

Application Submittal
Submit all required information under the submittal requirements section of this application by the deadlines stated above.
Incomplete applications will not be processed. Upon receipt of a complete application, the Community Development
Department shall review the submitted materials for general compliance with the appropriate requirements of the zoning
code. If the application is not in compliance with zoning code requirements, the application and submittal materials shall be
returned to the applicant with a written explanation of non - compliance.
Staff Review
The Administrator (a member of the Planning Staff) will review and either approve a Design Review application, approve it
with conditions, deny the application, or refer the application to the Design Review Board for a decision. All Staff approvals
are reviewed by the Design Review Board and any administrative decision is subject to final approval by the Board. The
Board reviews applications and may approve, approve with conditions, deny the application, or table the application to allow
applicants to respond to comments.
Design Review Board Meetinq Requirements
Prior to the meeting, for new construction and additions, the applicant must stake and tape the project site to indicate
property lines, proposed buildings and building corners. All trees proposed to be removed must be marked. The applicant
must ensure that staking done during the winter is not buried by snow.
The applicant, or their representative(s), shall be present at the Design Review Board public meeting. The item will be
postponed if the applicant fails to appear before the Design Review Board, on their scheduled meeting date.
SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS
The Town of Vail offers two (2) methods for submittal of materials for review of applications. Materials can be submitted ei-
ther digitally or on paper. Whichever method you select all materials shall be submitted in that format throughout the Design
Review process. The Town encourages you to consider using the submittal of digital documents and plans.
If submitting digitally all elements of the application shall be uploaded to the Town's share file site as a complete set of materi-
als. If submitting paper, one (1) copy of the materials noted are required. The materials necessary to have a complete appli-
cation are as follows:
❑ Completed application form including owner's signature (cover sheet).
❑ Application fee
• Additional fees may be required if: 1) Any local, state or Federal agency review is required, 2) Publishing fees
are in excess of 50% of the application fee, or 3) External consultants are required by the Town to review signifi-
cant impacts on the community.
Colored scaled schematic drawing @ 1/4" - 1' with sign and lettering dimensions for each proposed sign
❑ Sign location on site plan and elevation drawing OR photograph clearly indicating proposed location
❑ Material and color sample
❑ Joint Property Owner Written Approval Letter, if applicable (pg. 2). This form is applicable to all Design Review applicants
that share ownership of the subject property. For example, the subject property where construction is occurring is a du-
plex, condominium or multi- tenant building. This form shall be completed by the applicant's neighbor/ joint property own-
er. In the case of a multiple - family dwelling or multi- tenant building, the authority of the association shall complete this
form.
❑ Sign lighting plan, including type, location, number of fixtures, height above grade, lumens output, luminous area, and cut
sheet for each fixture.
❑ Drawings showing how and where the sign or awning will attach to the building and how the awning will be constructed.
❑ The Administrator and /or DRB may require the submission of additional plans, drawings, specifications, samples and oth-
er materials (including a model) if deemed necessary to determine whether a project will comply with Design Guidelines
or if the intent of the proposal is not clearly indicated.
Brandess Building Sign Program Summary

Purpose of the Sign Program
The intent of this revised sign program, as amended on March 1, 2014, is to provide a
prescribed set of parameters for future signage for the tenants of Brandess Building,
wanting visibility from the North Frontage Road. Though a previous sign program was
established, there is currently no detailed record of said sign program in the records of the
Town of Vail. This update re- establishes the sign program for the Brandess Building,
bringing the building and its signage into compliance with Title 11 — Sign Regulations —
of the Vail Town Code.
East and West Elevation Signs — Building Identification
The Building may maintain and replace one sign on the uppermost level of its
East Elevation and one sign on the uppermost level of its West Elevation designating the
location as "Brandess Building." Said signs shall not exceed 99 inches in Length and 20
inches in Height, and individual letters composing the sign (though not a background
Field) may be lighted internally.
Wall Mounted Signs — Allowance by Tenant
Number: -Seven sign maximum for the South Elevation of the Building
-One sign per ground floor tenant
- Remaining signs allocated to those second and third floor tenants facing
North Frontage Road on a first- come -first -serve basis in
accordance with the spacing indicated in attached Exhibit A.
Size: The total allowable sign area for any qualified tenant shall be a uniformed:
Length- 99 inches (8'3 ")
Height- 20 inches (1'8 ")
Note: The sign located in area B (recessed fagade adjacent to
stairs) shall be of a unique size (88 inches by 24 inches) to
provide more desirable proportions for the area.
Location: Signs are to be located on the south fagade of the building in designated
locations identified in Attachment 1 (south elevation). Signs shall be
centered below specific windows, mounted 6 inches from the bottom the
sill.
Note: All signs are to be mounted parallel to the building fagade.
Design: Field: Black with a two inch white boarder. Painted metal or 30#
foam core may be used.
Font: Letters are to have white acrylic faces and be of Helvetica
upper case or Helvetica script, Times New Roman Bold, or
Wide Latin Bold. Text area shall be between 7 and 10
square feet.
Logos: A small corporate logo may be incorporated into the sign in
lieu of lettering. Logos shall be no larger than 3.5 square
feet, and will be deducted from available text area.
Lighting: Front lit with a uniform fixture design as shown on the
attached Exhibit B.
Window Signs — Allowance by Tenant
Number: 1 sign per window per first, second or third floor tenant facing North
Frontage Road.
Size: The combined total allowable sign area of any business shall be based
upon the section 11 -6 -3E of the Vail Town Code:
The area of any window sign shall not exceed fifteen percent (15%) of the
area of the window in which it is placed, with a maximum size per window
sign of six (6) square feet. Mullions that are more than twelve inches (12')
wide shall be considered window separators, thereby signifying a separate
"window area ". Sale signs, business operation signs, promotional event
posters and open /closed signs do not count toward window sign area
calculations.
Total Sign Area: shall be measured by multiplying total width (inches) by
total height (inches) of the proposed sign.
Location: Affixed to glass surface or maximum of 6 inches from glass surface. Signs
placed within three feet (3') of a window and visible as viewed from
outside the storefront shall be counted toward total allowable window sign
area.
Design: Field: Letters shall be individually placed, or white faces located on a
transparent ground.
Font: Letters are to have white acrylic faces and be of Helvetica upper
case or Helvetica script, Times New Roman Bold, or Wide Latin
Bold. Text area shall be between 7 and 10 square feet.
Lighting: No lighting will be permitted for window signs.
Building Joint Directory
The Building will offer a single Joint Directory listing for all second and third tenants,
and all common amenities, such as restroom locations, located in the main staircase entry
to the building, in black lettering on a white field, in either Wide Latin Bold or Palatino
Linotype font. The Joint Directory may have indirect lighting.
Nonconforming Signs
Nonconforming signs are permitted to remain until removed or replaced, pursuant to Title
11, Chapter 9, Vail Town Code — Exempt, Prohibited and Non - Conforming Signs
