Let's go ahead and proceed. Here's what I'd like to do: 1. Please remove the 1 dead tree in the rear of the property to the east of the spa building, leaving about 8 -10 of trunk standing - our gift to the woodpeckers. Please make sure all deadfall and wood is hauled off and the property left as it was before the team came in. I'd like to salvage a cord of the wood 24 -28" lengths and have it stacked on the top, south -side deck where our fireplace wood is currently stacked. 2. Please remove the dead tree in front of the home as economically as possible and leave a bench seat out of the stump. We'd like to have you plant a 16' replacement tree close to one side of the new stump bench seat. Let's get together on the exact species and location of this replacement tree before you begin. I would also like clarification on how the front yard will be left after tree removal and planting. I know you need to line up permits so please start with that, let's speak by phone later this week to review some of the details. This project is expensive. We won't save much by leaving the stump in back at 8 feet but we could do it no problem. Crew time will remain the same but we will save some space and weight in the haul truck. The front tree has a little more flexibility. I could use a climber and work more from your driveway possibly eliminating or reducing one of the permits and some crane time. The offset to decreasing crane time is increasing labor as climbing takes quite a bit longer. We will still need some traffic control as we are working right on the edge of the road. Unfortunately by the time I balance savings from crane and permits, against the additional persons and reduced permit cost I only come up with $180.00 saving. If someone will load and haul the logs away that will save $200.00. 1 only calculated in $50.00 to haul the chips away. You would save $250.00 by leaving the stump and if you would like it a few feet tall that will save a final flush cut. The other side of the coin is the carving will likely cost more than the final cut and grinding. Part of the problem is the crane charges port to port and the best priced crane of the right size is located in Summi9t County. The time spent for travel and setup diminish the offset of crane vs. climber. Unfortunately I have not come across much of a market for wood. A few guys will haul for firewood but I have not found many buyers. If we chose to leave the trunk of the tree in back about 8' high (so that the woodpeckers could have a project to work on) and chose not to have you grind the stump of the tree out front, but instead, leave the base to be carved into a seat or sculpture (do you know anyone who does this ?) how much would that save us? Is there a market for the wood - someone I might call who might pay me for the wood and thus offset some of the removal costs? bruce From: Rick Herwehe [mailto:rh@)cereslandcare.com] Sent: Monday, April 07, 2014 7:21 AM 2 ' To: Bruce Willard Subject: RE: Tree care proposal for 454 Beaver Dam Road Hi Bruce, I am just following up on the proposal. This tree removal project is a bit complicated since it requires road closures on two roads on two roads in one day and multiple traffic control sets which involves several permits from Community Development and the Town Street Department. I priced a 16 foot tree since it is the largest tree our current preferred supplier has in his field. I can pursue larger trees if you would like a larger one. The planting price will not change much but the price of the tree will increase for purchase price and transportation will go up. The Town would prefer the tree removal be done in late April or May since we are closing roads. The traffic volume is down that time of year and the folks in streets are much more accommodating during mud season.
