Code determination needed by Building Department: Comments to CBO: I have looked at the code analysis they provided. I note it does not meet the 2009 IBC. I thought we were using the 2012 edition now. There is a plan note that the 2009 and 1979 review under Incidental Use Areas shows a 1 hr rating or automatic fire extinguishing system but only for the Mechanical Room. Section III Allowable Area & Height .proposes 6 stories, allows for 4 stories and an increase for area or number of stories is not allowed. Under the 1979 edition, he counts the number of stories above the B Occupancies as "4 over 2" for a total of 8. I don't think the analysis adequately addresses the basement issue. I am of the opinion that the fire sprinkler system should be extended throughout the basement level.
