Re: 2754 Snowbery Drive — Permanent Shoring
Mr. Dantas,
In June and July of 2014, HTM Construction Company installed a soil nail and shotcrete retaining wall at
the Snowbery Duplex, 2754 Snowberry Drive, Vail,.CO. Weekly special inspections were made to insure
that the retaining wall was built to the plans and specifications. I completed a final inspection for the
project on August 7, 2014.
The construction of the soil nail retaining wall meets all the requirements of the plans completed by SAC
Design Group dated April 22, 2014.
If you require any additional information, feel free to contact me.

Job No. 114 017A
Subject: Observation of Excavation, Proposed Duplex Residence — East Unit, Lot
15, Block 9, Vail Intermountain, 2754 Snowberry Drive, Vail, Colorado
Gentlemen:
As requested, a representative of Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. observed the
excavation at the subject site on August 4, 2014 to evaluate the soils exposed for
foundation support. The findings of our observations and recommendations for the
foundation design are presented in this report. We previously conducted a subsoil study
for design of foundations at the site and presented our findings in a report dated March
25, 2014, Job No. 114 017A.
The proposed development is essentially the same as that described in our previous
report. Spread footings placed on the natural soils and sized for an allowable bearing
pressure of 2,500 psf were designed for the building support.
At the time of our visit to the site, the building excavation had been cut in multiple levels
from roughly 5 to 30 feet below the adjacent ground surface. The uphill excavation cut
had been retained with a soil nail wall. The steps in grade were generally down to the
north and west with the natural ground surface slope. The soils exposed in the bottom of
the excavation consisted of silty clayey sand and gravel with cobbles. The footing grade
had been compacted. No free water was encountered in the excavation and the soils were
slightly moist to moist.
The soil conditions exposed in the excavation are consistent with those previously
encountered on the site and suitable for support of spread footings designed for the
recommended allowable bearing pressure of 2,500 psf. Any loose disturbed soils should
be removed in the footing areas to expose the undisturbed natural soils prior to concrete
placement. Other recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicable
should also be observed.
The recommendations submitted in this letter are based on our observation of the soils
exposed within the foundation excavation and the previous subsurface exploration at the

site. Variations in the subsurface conditions below the excavation could increase the risk
of foundation movement. We should be advised of any variations encountered in the
excavation conditions for possible changes to recommendations contained in this letter.

concerned about MOBC, then a professional in this special field of practice should be
consulted.
