Dear Mr. Haeberle:
Please find our response in reference to your questions documented in your September
2, 2014 letter pertaining to this project.
Architectural Comments:
Sheet S1
1. Show handrails in compliance with section 1012 IBC 2012 edition. Plans indicate to
be removed and reinstalled.
• No handrails will be removed during the process of replacing the wood columns.
2. If guards are to be removed and reinstalled need to show compliance with section
1013 IBC 2012.
• No guards will be removed during the process of replacing the wood columns. The
guards will be disconnected from the existing posts, new posts installed, and the
guards reconnected to the new posts. Details of the new connection between the
existing guards and new posts have been provided in the drawings.
Structural Comments:
Sheet SO
1. Engineer of record to identify special inspection criteria on plans. References
section 1704.3 IBC 2012 edition. Please note the f c for concrete to help identify
required special inspections.
• Special inspection is required for the soils only of this project per the 2012 IBC and
are detailed in the general notes of the construction documents.
• The fc for concrete footings is 5000psi

2. Show location of proposed work, typical.
• Buildings with Decks to be affected by these plans are shown on S0. The decks are
located full length on the southern or northern side of each of these buildings.
3. Clarify snow loading at decking is being addressed in live load data. Reference
section 1607.2 IBC 2012 edition.
• Snow loading on the decks is assumed to be accounted for within the live load —
60psf(1.5 times the live load of the occupancy served - 40psf), since the decks are
beneath covered roofs/decks above.
Sheet S1
1. Provide design for reinstallation of handrails as indicate on plans showing
compliance with section 1607.8 IBC 2012 edition.
• Details for reattachment of guards to decks are shown on S1. Handrails are not
altered by this scope of work.
