I thought it was discussed that the gates should have the same architectural appearance as the existing fence. Please provide details for why they are different. I believe they should match. thanks Warren Campbell Chief of Planning Community Development Department 970.479.2148 vailgov.com twitter.com/vailgov 1 Warren Campbell From:David Baum <davidb@zehren.com> Sent:Thursday, October 02, 2014 11:52 AM To:Warren Campbell Cc:Martin Haeberle; Mike Vaughan; Todd Oppenheimer; Pedro Campos; Jack Hunn Subject:RE: Ford Amphitheater Emergency Exits Warren- Thanks for the opportunity to address these questions – please find our responses below in red and feel free to contact us with any further questions or clarifications. David Baum, AIA Architect, LEED AP Zehren and Associates From: Warren Campbell \[mailto:WCampbell@vailgov.com\] Sent: Monday, September 22, 2014 10:30 AM To: David Baum (davidb@zehren.com) Cc: Martin Haeberle; Mike Vaughan; Todd Oppenheimer Subject: Ford Amphitheater Emergency Exits David, The following are comments staff has regarding the exits.  It was discussed in our meeting that the paths would cease to be formalized as they came out of trees as guests could disperse into the grass/lawn area south of the softball fields. This would eliminate confusion of pedestrians mistakenly walking down the path and arriving at the rear of the amphitheater. Why are there paths shown all the way out the path behind the softball fields? There are no paths proposed behind the softball fields. The arrows and routes shown in the Sheets L1.7 a & b are to meet the intent of 2012 IBC, 1027.5 which states an Exit Discharge “shall provide a direct and unobstructed access to a public way”. We believe the path behind the softball fields constitutes the closest public way. Our intent by showing the arrows and route was to demonstrate the access to the public way from the egress as required by code .  What is the exit path material proposed to be? It was suggested that crushed gravel or mulch may be acceptable. The emergency egress exits will open to lawn and / or mulched landscape areas.  What, if any pathway lighting will be included? Provide cut sheets for any proposed fixture. Pathway lights are not proposed in these locations – for the express purpose of discouraging any use as an entry or exit of convenience. In a scenario where these gates are available for egress due to an activated alarm, the house 1 lights will come on to 100% of their capability and in combination with the Town of Vail’s pole mounted path lighting will provide adequate lighting for egress. We have AEC engaged to review the lighting in this area and confirm 1fc, if additional lighting for egress is required we will address it in the future with cut sheets and a proposed fixture. Jason Perez with Provide details on how the gates will be tied into the emergency system and protocols. Conundrum Technologies is coordinating with the Town of Vail on behalf of this project – we will provide a response to this question once the coordination is completed and a direction has been agree upon. Will gates ever be used for exiting after a show in non-emergency events? No Strobes will not be required.
