Highlights of the ordinance are: - Anyone receiving trash services in Vail will also be required to take part in recycling. - All participants must have bear - resistant recycling and trash carts. - The ordinance goes into effect July 1, 2014. Participants have until January 1, 2015 to fully comply with the regulations. - To encourage waste diversion through recycling, we are required by ordinance to implement variable cost pricing on your trash service, meaning the larger trash can will be more expensive than the smaller can. Vail Honeywagon intends to make your transition to meeting the new requirements as smooth as possible. These are some steps you can take to start the process: 1) Vail Honeywagon will be offering Single Stream recycling collection every week starting August 1, 2014 (download flier for your neighborhood at vailhoneywagon.com). Please take some time to track how much waste and recycling you generate before you decide on which cart to get for each. Be sure to include the additional trash you will generate during holidays and parties when determining your waste stream. 2) Contact Vail Honeywagon to make arrangements to purchase or rent a new cart. a. We have 3 size bins that you can choose from: - 96 gallons (trash or recycling) - 64 gallons (trash or recycling) - 32 gallons (trash only) b. Carts maybe purchased, call for pricing, or rented for $10.00 /month c. Town of Vail is offering a $100 rebate toward the purchase of your bear resistant cart. (Contact Town of Vail to learn more about the rebate www.vailgov.com /recycling or refer to the link from our website) d. Please be mindful when choosing your new trash/ recycling carts, as they are not refundable and there will be a $50 exchange fee. e. One option is to convert your existing bear - resistant, 96 gallon cart to Single - stream recycling and purchase a smaller trash receptacle. There is a $5 charge to add required recycling stickers for cart conversion. f. Take into consideration that "wildlife attractant" trash may not be outside the container and non - attractant items outside of the cart will be charged accordingly, so chose your trash cart size wisely. 3) Waste service rates will change October 1, 2014, with a retroactive charge for the extended recycling services that start in August. Your service rates will depend on your trash container size — not the size of your recycling cart. We appreciate your patience and continued communication during this time of transition. Vail Honeywagon has always been a proud supporter of sustainable waste solutions and we will continue to offer the same great, personalized service that we are known for providing. Please do not hesitate to call us with questions, (970) 476 -3511. We are here to help! Sincerely, The Vail Honeywagon Team
