General Information: This application is required for all proposals involving_minor changes to buildings and site improve-
ments, such as roofing, painting, window additions, landscaping, fences, retaining walls, etc. Applicable Vail Town
Code sections can be found at www.vailgov.com under Vail Information - Town Code Online. All projects requiring de-
sign review must receive approval prior to submitting a building permit application. An application for Design Review
cannot be accepted until all required information is received by the Community Development Department, as outlined in
the submittal requirements. The project may also need to be reviewed by the Town Council and/or the Planning and
Environmental Commission. Design review approval expires one year from the date of approval, unless a building per-
mit is issued and construction commences.

The following is to request approval for the installation of a metal security gate at the southwest corner
of the Rams -Horn Lodge Condominiums located at 416 Vail Valley Dr. Attached photo A shows the area
where the gate would be installed.
As presently constructed, there is an approximate 6 foot opening between the end of the painted
concrete wall and the building structure. This opening presents a security issue due to open access from
the sidewalk to the patio of the ground floor condominium (Suite 3). The only materials currently
providing any deterrent to access are some smaller sandstone rocks.
The request of the Association is to be granted permission to install a metal gate with the approximate
following dimensions: 3' wide with a 1 %2' side panel on each side of the gate and 4' in height. The gate
and side panels would be fastened to the concrete wall as well as the building itself. This would provide
security to this area from casual entry from the sidewalk and street.
In addition to the gate and side panels, we propose to install 6 juniper shrubs to the east of the gate and
along the street side of the concrete wall to enhance the visual appearance in this area. We also
propose to add 3 sandstone rocks approximately 2' x 3' in dimension on the outside of the gate to
further fill in the area that currently has rocks of similar nature.
We have attached 2 scenarios for accomplishing this addition. These scenarios are provided in mocked
up photos B and C. In photo B, we propose a black metal gate made of the same materials as is
currently constructed in the pool surround gate. In photo C, we have proposed a gate constructed in
the materials used on the deck railings. In both cases, we would construct to the approximate
dimensions indicated above and include the additional landscaping and sandstone rocks.
