MINUTES
Call meeting to Order
Meeting called to order at 3:10 pm by the chair Mark Mueller
1. Roll Call

2. Presentation of proposed schedule of review of the 2015 Building Codes
Action required
Schedule was presented by Martin Haeberle and the board reviewed with some date changes to be made around the 2015 Ski Championship as well as some possible scheduling change for the
fire code review.
Kyle Webb made a motion to accept the proposed schedule and Kathy Langenwalter seconded. Approved unanimously
3. Discussion and action of proposed committee and appointees of Board member representatives on committees.
The building official requested that board members chair specific committees to review the codes and town amendments. The board members shall report back to the Appeals Board body on
progress and recommendations at the regularly scheduled meeting each month
Action required
Board members to chair the following committees:
Steve Loftus Mechanical code
Kathy Langenwalter Zoning interface
Mark Mueller Structural
Mark Hallenbeck Energy Code
Rollie Kjesbo Utility
Mark Donaldson Fire code
Kyle Webb Roof and other Building code items to be determined
4. Schedule presentation by Industry representative from California on Class A Wood shakes. Mark Mueller to make recommendation
Action required.
Mark Mueller informed the board of a gentleman from the Wood Shake industry who was willing to come to Vail at his own expense to make a presentation of Class A wood shake shingles.
Further he has presented Mr. Mueller with wood shacks that can be tested for controlled burn testing. The recommendation by the board was to it in conjunction with the PEC to make the
most of the presentation. Martin indicated he would confer with George Ruther, Community Development Director, on this issue and get guidance on how best to proceed.
Kathy Langenwalter made a motion to go forward with the presentation with Steve Loftus seconding the motion. Approved unanimously
5. Changes to the Towns inspection criteria for work being special inspected and drywall inspections
No action required
The building official presented to the board as of September 3rd the town will no longer perform drywall inspection on non- fire restive construction unless it is found to be part of
shear wall.
Special inspection will be allowed in-lue of town inspections as prescribed by the building code.
6. Radon Webinar; lessons learned
Discussion only, no action required
Martin indicated that the webinar that was presented by the State of Colorado provided valuable insight into installation methods and also the severity of radon migration into homes
in Colorado. Martin gave to the board copies of the new hazard map which in essences covers the entire state and a statistical sheet of how many homes exceed the threshold for radon
hazard.

Include discussion on crawl spaces with water infiltration with the building code presentation
