Ray is an experienced safety expert with over 45 years in aviation.
He lives with his family in Lewisville, Texas. Ray holds pilot
certificates, as a commercial pilot in both helicopters and airplanes,
and has over 3,000 hours as a flight instructor and evaluator in both
airplanes and helicopters. A seasoned auditor, he has helped over
100 companies, municipalities and state aviation organizations
improve the quality of their training and safety programs. He is a
certified auditor of safety management systems for IS-BAO and has
worked in the aviation safety field for more than 20 years. Ray has
over 20 years' experience with occupational and aviation safety, and
safety management systems.
Currently he is working with Phoenix Aviation Managers, an aviation insurance company, building a new
safety and risk control department that helps companies insured with Phoenix Aviation Managers improve
safety within their organization. Prior to Phoenix Aviation, Ray was the Vice President for Safety and Loss
Control Services for AIG Aerospace. He has audited and assisted more than 50 hospitals improve the
safety of their heliport operation and provided design reviews for over a dozen more seeking to add a
heliport to their hospital.
Previous employment includes Director of Safety for Omniflight Helicopters. Omniflight, a leading
provider of helicopter and airplane medical transport services, provided helicopters, crews, and
maintenance support to hospital based helicopter emergency response services. While with Omniflight,
he was responsible for managing the safety program for 35 hospital contracts and a fleet of over 50 aircraft.
He also was a check airman, providing pilot training and supervising 35 base safety specialists. He has
flown numerous models of EMS helicopters including the BK -117, EC -135 and BHT -206L helicopters.
During his time with Omniflight, the company enjoyed five accident -free years.
He is experienced as a chief pilot and director of operations for an on -demand air carrier and was
designated as chief flight instructor for a helicopter flight school.
Ray retired from a 20 -year career with the U.S. Army during which he served as Chief of Standardization,
managed a research and development department, participated in the AH -64 simulator development and
he was a flight instructor and examiner for 17 years.
Ray has flown over 7,000 hours on three continents, during his 45 years in aviation. Previously he was a
Designated Pilot Examiner for the FAA specializing in Helicopter Private, Commercial, and flight
instructor certificates. His next objective is to complete a commercial pilot certificate in gliders.
Ray received his Master's degree in Business Administration from Embry -Riddle Aeronautical University.
He is a member of the Aviation Psychologist Association, Helicopter Association International, Aircraft
Owners and Pilots Association, North Texas Business Aviation Association, and National Association of
Flight Instructors and the Experimental Aircraft Association.
