determine whether a project will comply with Design Guidelines or if the intent of the
proposal is not clearly indicated.
NOTES TO ALL APPLICANTS
Time Reouirements
The Design Review Board meets on the lst and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. A complete application
form and all accompanying material must be accepted by the Community Development Department prior
to application deadlines. A schedule of DRB meetings and associated application deadlines may be found
on the World Wide Web at http://ci.vail.co.us/commdev/plannins/drb/meetings/default.htm
Review Criteria
The proposal will be reviewed for compliance with the Design Guidelines as set fotth in -Iltle 12 (Zoning
Regulations) and TiUe 14 (Development Standards) of the Town of Vail Municipal Code.
Desiqn Review Board Meetino Requirements
For new construction and additions, the applicant must stake and tape the project site to indicate
property lines, proposed buildings and building corners, All trees to be removed must be taped. The
applicant must ensure that staking done during the winter is not buried by snow. All site tapings and
staking must be completed prior to the day of the DRB meeting.
The applicant, or their representative, shall be present at the Design Review Board Hearing. Applicants
who fail to appear before the Design Review Board on their scheduled meeting date and who have not
asked in advance that discussion on their item be postponed, will have their items removed from the DRB
agenda until such time as the item has been republished.
If the DRB approves the application with conditions or modifications, all conditions of approval must be
resolved prior to the issuance of a building permit.
Staff Aooroval
The Administrator (a member of the planning staff) may review and approve Design Review applications,
approve with certain modifications, deny the application, or refer the application to the Design Review
Board for a decision. All staff approvals are reviewed by the Design Review Board and any staff decision
is subject to final approval by the DRB.

3. A photograph if possible and building elevation showingthe location of the proposed sign
4. A scaled drawing vrhich details the design of the sign,
as follows:

wood, canvas, painL, etc.)(c) Photograph of sign if available.(d) Specific lettering style and size.
5. If an awning is proposed, submit drawings showing
exactly how and where the awning is af.Lached to the
building and how the awning is to be constructed.
6. Description of lighting thaL wilt be used in
conjunction with Lhe sign or awning. If proposing an
awning, light.ing is not allowed to shine through the
ent.ire awning which calls undue att,ent.ion to the
business. LighLing may spotlight only the erctual sign
Iettering on the awning.
RECOMMENDATIONS OR POINTERS
1.. Check sign code - verify site, height etc.2. Be specific. Vagueness on design, size, construction nay
delay the approval of your sign.3. Measure frontage of business.
APPLTCATION FEE WILL BE REOUIRED AT THE TIT,IE OF .APPLICATION
SUBMITTAL.
If this application requires a separate review by any Iocal,
State or Irederal agency other t.han the Town of Vailr the
appJ.ication fee shall be increased by 5200.00. Examples of such
review, may include, but are not lirnited to: Colorado Departnent
* of Highway Access Permits, Arrny Corps of Engineers 404r etc.
The applicant shaLl be responsible for paying any publishing fees
which are in excess of 508 of the application fee. If, at the
appJ-icant's requesL, any natter is postponed for hearing, causing
t.he matter to be re-published, then, the entire fee for such re-publication shall be paid by the applicant.
Applications deerned hy the Community Development Departnent, to
have significant desi.gn, land use or oLher issues which nay havea significant impact on the conmunity may require review by. consultants other t.hat town staff. Should a deterrnination be
