These following steps should be taken.with the pilot burner lit and the control knob in the pilot position, use a narrow flat-blade screwdriver to turn the pilot adjustment scr€w. The adjustment screw is locited at the lower right of the pilot knob (Fig. A).Turn the pilot adjustment screw slowly clockwise to reduce the flame or counter clockwise to increase the pilot burner flame' The adjustment screw can be turned so that rhe pilot flame is extinguished. The pilot flame should be a quiet blue flame with yellow tipping which encircles the thermo-couple tip (Fig. B).Turn the control knob to the "on" position to assure proper ignition of irre log set. Remember ' ' ' ' The thinner the scent stick, the easier it will light. Your local fireplace shop will have replacement sticks available in many aromas. L Creating a more realistic looking burning log can be achieved by placing little strands of ember material in the log cracks and grooves where there is flame presenl Dark soot buildup makes logs look charred. Soot can be removed with small paint brush as desired. Always close screens when unit is on. Always open grass doors when unit is on. Do not obsruct the ignition hole at the base of the scent holder with embers. The front base log and the reu base log have to stay where indicated, however, you can rotate the twig logs around for a different appearance. Installation time should be about one hour. Double check all work. If not experienced, call your local fireplace shop for installation service. NOTE: INSTALLATION SHOULD BE DONE By A LICENSiD OR eUALIFIED (;AS I\IAN. Modet; Lighting Safety Pilot System MVK Millivolt Vatve Kit (Natural Only) INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTR CTION lmportant: Read these instruct- ions carefully before starting install- ation of your log set. FOR YOUR SAFETY Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinitv of this or other aooliance. Be Sure Damper is Fuily Open when in Operation of this gas log set. Young Children should be carefully supervised when they are in same rooms as the appliance. Notice: Please leave these instructions for the consumer and retain for future reference Warning: lmproper installation, adjustment, alteration, service or maintenance can cause injury or property damage. Follow the gas log instructions supplied by the manufacturers on the setting of the burner pan, tog basket grate, burner media (sand), ember material and the logs placement. Please follow these instructions on the connection of lhe inlel line to the gas valve and then to the burner pan assembly. lf this tirep,ace installation has glass doors, only operale the tireplace with glass doors in the f ully open position. This remote pilot kit contains a valve, pilot assembly, connector that is certitied by A.G.A. Installation Instructions: This section is for installing valve kit with preinstalted log set:1. Make sure all gas flow is completely turned otf to the gas log set. Make sure you have a certified and approved shut'off within six teet of the fireplace, or what ever lhe local inspection authority requlres. c. Remove all logs and basket grate and set aside.3. Disconnect the 3/8" Flared fitting at the burner pan from the inlet gas supply (Do not remove the orifice at the burner pan).4. Locate the MVK valve kit in the right or left front corner of the lire box as lar fonyard as Dossibte (See Figure #1)5. Bend inlet gas suppty line and connect the 3/8" flare fitting lo MVK 3/8" inlet connector (Fitting with Colored cap). (Use caution not to kink the line when bending).6. Bend 12" stainless flex line and connecl to valve outlet then connect the other end to 3/g" llare fitting on burner pan (Caution do not let gas intet line to the MVK or gas oultel line from the MVK be placed in or over the burner pan).7. Most burner pans have predrilled holes located on the back of lhe burner pan about 4" from the riEht side of the burner pan. These holes are for mounting the pilot if these holes are not in the pan or if the MVK is being located on the left side of the burner pan you will need to drill (2) 3t16" holes to mount lhe pilot. Measure over4'and use the pilot bracket as a template to locate where to drill see (Figure #3 & Figure #4).B. Mount pilot assembly to burner pan with (2) #8 screws as shown in (Figure *2). Bend 114, stainiess pilot tubing from pilot assembly to MVK and connect pilot fitting to valve. (Use caution when bending pilot tubing nol to kink the tubing or locate the tubing in or over the burner pan). 9' lf the MVK is located on the teft side of the fireplace the on/otf rocker switch will need to be moveo lo the right side ol the MVK.10. Turn on gas supply and check all connections for leaks using soapy waler solution. 1 1. Follow valve pilot lighting instructions. After pilot is lit check pilot tittings for leaks.12. Reinstall basket grate and logs.13. Install Damper stop (supplied wilh this valve kit) (l-his allows damper to remain stightly open to allow pilot to vent) This section is for installing valve kit with new log set: 1. Make sure all gas flow is completely turned off to the fireplace. Make sure you have a certilied and approved shut'off within six feet of the lireplace, or what ever the local inspection authority reeuires. 2. Follow the instructions supplied with the log set to locate the burner pan. Using the fittings, orifice and gas supply line that came with the log set connect the line to the inlet gas supply.3. Locate lhe MVK valve kit in the right or left front corner of the fire box as far fonrard as possible (See Figure #1)4. Bend inlet gas supply line and connect the 3/8" flare fitting to MVK 3/8" inlet connector (Fitting with Colored cap). (Use caution not to kink the line when bending).5. Bend 12" stainless flex line and connect to valve outlet then connect the other end to 3/g" flare o fitting on burner pan (Cautlon do not let gas intet line to the MVK or gas outtet line lrom the MVK be placed in or over the burner pan). Most burner pans have predrilled holes located on the back of the burner pan about 4' from the right side of the bumer pan. These holes are for mounting the pilot. lf lhese holes are not in the pan or if the MVK is being located on the left side of the bumer pan you will need to orill (Z) 3/16" holes to mouht lhe pilot. Measure over 4" and use the pilot bracket as a template to locate where lo drill see (Figure #3 & Figure #4). Mount pilot assembly to burner pan with (2) #B screws as shown in (Figure #2). Bend 1/4" slainless pilot tubing from pilot assembly to MVK and connect pilot fitting to valve. (Use caution when bending pilot tubing not to kink the tubing or tocate the tubing in or over the burner pan). ll the MVK is iocated on the left side of the fireplace the on/off rocker switch will need to be moved to the right side of the MVK. Turn on gas supply and check all connections for leaks using soapy water solution. Follow valve pilot lighting instructions. After pilot is lit check pilot fittings for leaks. Follow the instructions supplied with the log set to install burner media,(sand), ember material, basket grate and logs. This product has a standing pilot which must be lit by hand. When lighting the pitot, follow these instructions exactly. 2. This installation should be installed including provisions for combuslion and ventilation air, must conform with local codes or, in the absence of local codes, with the national fuel Gas Code, ANSI 223 latest addition. 3. I his orooucl must be on a gas supply line that is tess than 1/2 psig and with an individual manual shut 4. Never operate this new system with the glass fireplace enclosures (doors) in the closed position. OPERATING INSTHUCTIONS HOWTO LIGHTTHE PILOT 1 . To light pilot remove the screened cover and slightly push in on the Valve knob and lurn to the PILOT setting. Note: Valve Knob cannot be turned from 'PILOT' to "QFF" unless the Valve Rnob is pushed in slightly. Do not tarce.2' Push the Valve Knob futly in and at the same time place a match or butane lighter at pilot bumer. Pilol will light, conlinue to hold the Valve Knob in for at least 60 seconds. lf pilot does not stay lit, lurn lhe Valve Knob to lhe "OFF' position. Wait 5 minutes and repeat the lighting instructions. (Note it may take a couple of tries for the gas to push the air rrorn the system)3. After 60 seconds release the Valve Knob, wait about 30 seconds then turn the Valve Knob to the "ON" position. lf the pilot goes out, tum the Valve Knob to the "OFF" position, stop and cal, your sewice lechnician or gas supplier. HOW TO TURN ONAND OFF 1 . The MVK has a rocker switch included with the system. Place the switch in the "O" position and this will ignite the main bumer. The MVK rocker switch can be located on the lett or right side of the valve box .2. To tum the gas logs off, push the rocker switch to the " t " position. Pilot will remain lit.3. To turn the Pilot off, be sure the switch is in the ' t 'position, and slightly push in on the Valve Knob and turn lhe Valve Knob lo the "OFF" position. MAINTENANCE OF YOUR MVK SYSTEM 1 . Your system should be checked once a year lor proper operalion by a qualilied service representative.2. ltem to check valve operation, pilot operation, switch operalion, damper operation, visual check of the burner and gas connections lor leaks.
