PUBLIC WORKS PERM]T PROCESS
How it relates to Building Permits:
1) Fill out our check list provided with a buildino permit apolication.
lf yes was answered to any of the above questons then a "public way" is
required. You can pick up an application at either community Development,
located at 75 S. Frontage Road or Public Works, located at 1309 Vail Valley Drive.
2) Notice sign otfs for utility companies. All utilities must field verify (tocate)
respective utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies iequire up
to a 48 hour notice to schedule a locate.
3) A construction traffic controUstaging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet
of paper.An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations
of all traffic control devices(signs, cones, etc..) and the work zone, (area of
construction, staging, etc..). This plan willexpire on oct. 1Sth. and wilt need to
be resubmitted for approval through the winter.
4) Sketch of work being performed must be submifted indicating dimensions (length,
width & depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic aontrot ptan oi a iiteplan for the job.
5) Submit completed application to the Public Works's office for review. lf reguired,
locates will be scheduled for the Town of Vail Electricians and lrrigation crew. The
locates take place in the morning but, may require up to 4g hou?s to Derform.
The Public work's construction Inspector will review the application ano approve
or disapprove the permit. you will be contacted as to the status and any thai mayneeded. Most parmits are released within 4g hours of being received, but pteasi
allow up to one week to process.
As soon as the permit is processed, a copy will be faxed to community
Development allowing the "Building permit'to be released. please do not confusi
the "Public way Permit'with a "Building permit" to do work on a project itself.
NOTE:

Dear John:
At your reguest, tbis office has conducted a visual inspection of
the danage caused by a fire at the above nentioned address. The
purpose of this inspection is to deternine what fire 6:maged
elernents of the wood-frame structure roust be replaced or addressed
to return the structure to it's original condition. The building
was constructed in the early 1970's.
According to the fire investigators, the fire started around the
fireplace chirnney in Unit 304. The najority of the fire was
confined to the 6:12 vaulted roofs of Unit 3O4 and 305, andportions of the upper leve1 floors of Unit 304 and 305. Localized
areas of the 3:l-2 roofs of Units 304 and 305 nere damaged. Units
304 and 305 were entirely damaged by snoke and water. Units 302
and 303 beneath the fire-damaged units were virtually r:ndamaged,
only ninimal water danage will require repairs. Ttre followingitens nust be addressed relating to the repair of the structure:

desigrn snow loads are 10O psf for roofs up to, and including,a 3:12 pitch. Roof slopes grreater than 3:12 must be designedto support 80 psf snow.
Based upon the increased. snou load.s, the existing 2x10 g 16rton center rafters must become 2x1O e 12n on center, or, 2xl-2g 15' on center. The ridge beams beneath the G:12 roof pitchmust be Glulam 5 L/B x.l3 L/2 (span of 14r-5'). The upperleveI floor beam in Unit 304, between the kitchen and-theIiving rooD, must be a Glulan 5I/8 x lB (span of l_Zr-6tr).The balance of the replaced. framing menbers can be sized asthey presently exist. All franing lunber to be Doug-Fir #2or better. ALl Glulam beams to be Doug-Fir 24oo psi bendingstress or better.
Replace all framj-ng elements that are charred or fire damaged.Replacement of the dauaged upper level floor of Unit f3O4 nayrequire the removal of the undanaged shed roof and upper leveLwaLls over the upper leve1 floor. If less expensive, thecontractor can tenporarily support tbe roof and upper levelwarls while replacing the upper Level- floor. Field coordinatethe best repair strategy upon completion of the deruolition.
c) INTERIOR AND EXTERIoR FINTSIIES
Reprace al1 exterior and interior danaged finishes to nratchexisting finishes. Upgrrade all finishes to current TOV codes.
Any renaining original structural elements must be treated forsnoke exposure. The-concrete topping of Units 304 and 3O5 nayreguire replacement if conventional -leaning procedures donrLadequately clean and deodorize the concrete topping. Verifyproper operation of the electrical and nechanical-systens.
d) SITE INSPECTION
Contact this offire .upon senplete derooLition of existingd4nra11 and insulation to visually inspect all e:rposedframing. At that' tine exact determination of replacedstructural elements can be determined.
