Amendment to the 2002 N.E.C. Town of Vail Ordinance 4, Series of 2005

Underground seruices shallbe in conduit (PVC) from the utiliU transformer to the electric meter, main
disconnect switch, and to the first electrical distribution circuit breaker panel.
The main disconnect s,witch shall be tadily accwible, andlxated no<t to the meter on the exterior wall of
the stucture. All underground conduits are required to be inspected before back-filling the trench.
In multi-family dwelling unlts, no electrical wiring or feeder cables shall pass from one unit to another. Common

TOWN OF VAII ELECTRICAL PERMIT GUIDEUNES
All installations of exterior hot tubs or spa's require a DRB approval from planning. This application will
not be accepted without a copy of the DRB approval form attached (if applicable).
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on a new elevated platform or deck over
30" above grade, you must also obtain a building permit.
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on any existing deck or elevated platform,
a structural engineer must review the existing condition and veriff that it will support the added
concentrated load. Please provide a copy of the structural engineers wet stamped letter or drawing
with this application.
If this is a remodel in a multi-famiff building with a homeowners association, a letter of permission
from the association is required.
If this permit is for a commercial space, two (2) sets of stamped drawings are required. Electrical
one-line and panet schedules are required if load is added ordistribution is aftercd.

If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works) review and approval,
a Planning Depaftment revieW or Health Department review, and a review by the Building Depaftment, the
estimated time for a total reviqw will take as long as three (3) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above mentioned maximum
requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser amount of time. However, if residential or
smaller projects impact the vbrious above mentioned departmenG with regard to necessary review, these
projects may also take three (p) weeks to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by [his department to expedite this permit as soon as possible.

How it relates to Building Permits:
If yes was answered to any of the questions then a "Public Way" permit is required. You can pick up an
application at either Community Development located at 75 South Frontage Road or Public Works, located at
1309 Elkhorn Drive.
F Notice sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field veriff (locate) respective utilities prior to signing
application. Some utility companies require up to 48 hours notice to schedule a lircate.
> A construction tramc control/staging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper. An approved site plan
may also be used. This plan will show locaUons of all traffic control devices (signs, cones, ek.) and the work
zone, (area of construction, staging, etc.), This plan will expire on November 1$ and will need to be resubmitted
for consideration for approval through the winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site plan for the job.
) Submit completed application to the Public Works office for review. If required, locates will be scheduled for the
Town of Vail electricians and irrigation crew. The locates take place in the moming, but may require up to 48
hours to perform.
) The Public Work Construction Inspector will review the applicaUon and approve or deny the permiL You will be
contacted as to the stah.rs and any requiremenb that may be needed. Most permits are released 48 hours of
being received, but please allow up to one (1) weekto process.
) As soon as the permit is approved, the Building Department will be notified, allowing the "Building Permif'to be
released. Please do not confuse the "Public Way Permif with the "Building Permif'.
November 15th. A new Pubtic Way Permit is required each year if work is not complete. Re-
application each November 15b does not mean an automaUc renewal.

How it relates to Building Permits:
Fill out the attached check list with the Building permit Aoolication,
If yes was answered to any of the quesUons then a "Public Way" permit is required. You can pick up an
application at either Community Development, located at 75 South Frontage Road or Public Works, located at
1309 Elkhorn Drive.
Nott'ce sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field verify (locate) respective utilities prior to signing
application. Some utility companies require up to 48 hours notice to schedule a locate.
A construction traffic conbol/staging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper. An approved site plan
may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic control devices (signs, cones, etc.) and the work
zone, (area of construction, staging, etc.). This plan will expire on November 1$ and will need to be resubmitted
for consideration for approval through the winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
Sketch of work being pedormed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length, width and depth of work).
This may be drawn on the traffic conFol plan or a site plan for the job.
) Submit completed application to the Public Works office for review. If required, locates will be scheduled for the
Town of Vail electricians and irrigatjon crew. The locates take place in the morning, but may require up to 48
hours to peform.
F The Public Works Construction Inspector will review the application and approve or deny the permit. You will be
contacted as to the status and any requirements that may be needed. Most permits are released 48 hours of
being received, but please allow up to one (1) weekto process.

The Vail Village and LionsHead Village are invaluable assets to the community, Thousands of people come to Vail each year to
sightsee, recreatg shop and to enjoy everything the Vail Valley has to offer. The community and merchants rely upon our guesb to
generate revenue. Our summer/lyinter guests eleect a pleasant ocperience while in Vail,
To insure that all of the proposed construction has as little negative impad on the community and on our guest as possible, the Town
of Vail finds it imperatve to create and implement the Vail Wllage and UonsHead Village Construction Hours Handout.
It would be iresponsible for the Toun of Vail, the construction contractors and the mercfiants, to not actiraely participate to minimize
the impact of construction in the Vail and LionsHead Village areas.
The Vail Village Streetscape Project will continue through 2005. Improvements scheduled for
2O06 will be concentrated along Gore Creek Drive west of the Children's Fountain, Gore Creek
Promenade and around the frontage of the Mill Creek Court Building. Additional streetscape
improvements are scheduled to begin atong East Meadow Drive.
All construction prcjects and/or remodels within the Vail Village Core Area should contact
Scott Bluhm, Town of Vail Streetscape Coordinator, at 970-477-3418 for further information.
Givens
The following givens are intended to provide the basic foundation by which construction will be completed in
the villages:
. The public's health, safety and welfare shall be honored at all Umes..
. Adequate pedestrian, loading/delivery, vehicle, and emergency vehicle access and circulation shall be
maintained.
. Roadways and pedestrian walkways shall be kept clean and free of dirt and debris.
. All construction deliveries, equpment tools and materials entering the Vail Village and pedestrian areas
must go through CheckPoint Charlie. AII LionsHead construction activity must go to the Vail Police
Department for a parking permit. Do not use delivery zones for construction parking; refer to approved
staging plan or make other arrangemenb for parking.
. The hours of outside construction activity shall be as follows:
- April 15 - June 23 & september 5 - Norember tl, 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m,, swen days a week.
June 30 thru Septemher 1, work must end by 4:OO p.m. on Fridays.
November 13 - April L5, ZO07 work allowed within daylight hours only.
- Deliveries shall be restricted to the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a,m. on Gore Creek Drive and 7:00 a.m.
to 8:30 a.m. on BridEe Street.

On March 2l,2006,I observed the floor of this unit. The carpet had been pulled back, and
the floor substrate exposed. T[e structural floor system consists of steel joists at 24" on
center with metal deck sparuring between. The deck appears to be a light gaugc form-deck .
approximately 0.6 inohes in dep-th. A lightweiglrt cementitious product (Gypcrete or similar)
was then placed above the metal deck to provide a sound and level surface for the floor
finishes.
The structural system (ioists and deck) appear to be adequate for the code required loads' The
..G1pcrete" hasierformed reasonablyw"it in ttt" Utdtoom, but has broken up extensively in
ttraliving and tratt areas. This type oitopping over metal deck application is no longer in usc
today, drL to performance probiems as notea in this unit. It is my recomrnendatiorr that the
hightraffic arbas have the;Gypcrete" removed, and a 3,000 psi nonnal weight concrete be
pJured in its place. This concrets topping should be reinforsed with 6x6 Wl.4xWt'4 wolded
wire fabric. if the owner chooses to reuse the existing topping in the bedroom, the
performancs should be reasonable as long as the floor is not subject to impact loading such as
iurnbbells, hard-tired dollies or filing ca6inets lifted on their corners. The extent ofthe
topping removal is the owner's ohoiJe, as the underlying substructure is sound regardtess of
the topping used.
