o You must obrtaip Design Review Board (DRB) approval if any of the mechanical work will involve
ANY exterior w6rk. This includes and is not limited to r€moyal and reptacement of driyeway snow

I The Town of Vail has adopted ffre 2003 International Mechanical Code and the 2OO3 Internationat
Fuel Gas Code.
o All new construction within the Town of Vail is considered to be of unusually tight construction,
thus all combustion air is required to be drawn from outside the structure for mechanlcal
eguipment.
Town of Vail FireDlace Ordinance
In September of 1991, the Vail Town Council adopted an otdinance which restri'cts h constnrction and
use of open hearth fireplaces within municipal boundaries. Since that time the ordinbnce has
undelgone numerous changes and revisions, striving for compromise, yet effiectiveness in addressing
the air quality issue. Therefiore the following criteria has been adopted:
o Construction of open hearth wood burning fireplaces is no longer permitbd within Town of Vail
municipal boundaries.
o Dwellino Units - Each new dwelling unit may ontain:
One (1) EPA Phase II ceftified solid fuel buming dwioe and no more tfian turo (2) gas appthnces
(B vent)
OR
Two (2) gas log fireplae and no morc tftan two (2) gas appliance fireplaces (B bent).
r Restricted Dwellino Units - Each new restricted dwelling unit may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplace and not more than one (1) gas appliance fireplace.
I Accommodatioil Units - Each new aocommodation unit may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplace or one (f) gas appliance fireplace.
o If two or mor€ separate dwelling units or accommodation units are combined to form one latger
un'lt, the combined unit may retain one woodburning fireplace (if one already exists) and no more
than 2 gas appliance fireplaces, or may conveft up to two existing fircplaces to gas.
o If during the cource of a remodel an existing woodburning fireplace is altered or moyed, the unit
must then comply with all provisions of Ure ordinance. That is, the fireplace must be converted b
natural gas or rFplaced by an EPA Phase II certified unit.

Amendment to the 2002 N.E.C. Town of Vail Ordinance 4, Series of 2005
Overhead services are not alloured in the Town of Vail.
Underground services shallbe in conduit (PVC) from the utility transformer to the electric meter, main
disconnect switch, and to the first electrical distribution circuit breaker panel.
The main disconnect switch shall be readily accessible, andlo,cated next to the meter on the exterior wall of
the structure. All underground conduiB are required to be inspected before back-filling the trench.
In multFfamily dwelling units, ilo elecUical wiring or feeder cables shall pass from one unit to another. Common
walls and spaces are exempt
NM Cable (Romex) can h uped only in single and multi-hmily dwellings net ueeding 3 storin.
Tlpe NM cannot tu ud in any building mixd with Tfpe A,B,E F,fuI,l, &S orcupnci*.
All installations of exterior hot tubs or spa's require a DRB approval from planning. This application will
not be accepted without a copy of the DRB approval form attached (if applicable).
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on a new elevated platform or deck over
30" above grade, you must also obtain a building permit.
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on any existing deck or elevated platform,
a stuctural engineer must review the existing condition and veriry that it will support the added
concentrated load. Please provide a copy of the structural engineers wet stamped letter or drawing
with this application.o If this is a remodel in a mqlti-fami$ building with a homeowners association, a lefter of permission
from the association is required.o If this permit is for a comrnercial space, two (2) sets of shmped drawings are required. Electrical
one4ine and panel schdules are reguircd if load is added or distribution is alhred.
