Amendment to the 2002 N.E.G. Town of Vail Ordinance 4. Series of 2005
Overhead services are not allowed in the Town of Vail.
Underground services sha/l be in conduit (PVC) from the utilitytransformer to the electric meter, main disconnect
switch, and to the first electrical distribution circuit breaker panel.
The main disconnect switch shall be readily accessible, and located next to the meter on the exterior wall of the
structure. All underground conduits are required to be inspected before back-filling the trench.
In multi-family dwelling units, no electrical wiring or feeder cables shall pass from one unit to another. Common walls
and spaces arc exempt.
NM Cable (Romex) can he used only in single and multi-family dwellings. Type NM cannot be used in any
building mixed with Type A,B.E,F,H,I,M &S occupancies.
Aluminum conductors smaller than size #8 are not permitted.
TOWN OF VAIL ELEGTRICAL PERMIT GUIDELINES
All installations of exterior hot tubs or spa's require a DRB approval from planning. This application will not be
accepted without a copy of the DRB approval form aftached (if applicable).
lf this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on a new elevated platform or deck over 30" above grade,
you must also obtain a building permit.
lf this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on any existing deck or elevated platform, a structural
engineer must review the existing condition and verify that it will support the added concentrated load. Please provide
a copy of the structural engineers wet stamped letter or drawing with this application.
lf this is a remodel in a multi-family building with a homeowners association, a letter of permission from the association
is required.
ff this permit is for a commercial space, two (2) sets of stamped drawings are required. Electrical oneline and panel
scftedules are required ff load is added or distribution is altered.

Loft addition
At the request of Gordon Lewis III, R-EllStructural has reviewed the existing loft framing
above the girls room of the residence located at 1816 Sunburst Drive in Vail, Colorado. The
framing sketch SXI is based on the information given to us by Mr. Lewis. It is our
nnderstanding that the existing floor framing was constructed using 9 l/2" BCI6000 E1.7
joists @ 16" supported by wood beams/posts and an existing steel beam. The floor joists and
beams are supported using Simpson hangers where possible, bearing on posts, and on the
bottom flange of the existing steel beam. Some comections used Timberlok screws in
combination with Simpson L90 clips. The floor was sheathed with3/4" APA floor
sheaihing. Based on the infomration conveyed to us, the existing floor framing is acceptable
and no additional modifications are required.
