If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Enginee/s (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a
review by the Building Department, the estimated time for a total review may take up to
six (6) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multFfamily permib will have to follow the above
menUoned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser
amount of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above
mentioned departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may take up to
six (6) weeks to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as
possible.

understand that if the permit is not picked up by the expiration date, that I must still pay

Vail Village and Lionshead Village Construction Hours

Problem Statement
The Vail Village and Lionshead Village are invaluable assets to the community. Thousands of people come to Vail each
year to sightsee, recreate, shop and to enjoy everything the Vail Valley has to offer. The community and merchants rely
upon our guest to genemte revenue. Our summer/winter guests expect a pleasant experience while in Vail.
To insure that all of the proposed constuction has as liftle negative impact on the community and on our guest as
possible, the Town of Vail finds it imperative to create and implement the Vail Village and Lionshead Mllage Consfuction
Hours Handout.
It would be inesponsible for the Town of Vail, the Construction Contractors and the Merchants, to not actively participate
to minimize the impact of construction in the Vail and Lionshead Village areas.
New for 2004-2006 will be the Vail Village Streetscape lmprovement Projecl Work to Include all utllity related
improvements, streetscape, drainage, snowmelt systems and landscaping.
All Gonstruction projects and/or remodels within the Vail Village Core Area should contact Scott Bluhm
Town of Vail Streetscape Goordinator at 970477-U18 for further information.
Givens
The following givens are intended to provide the basic foundation by which construction will be completed in the Mllages:
o The public's health, safety and welfare shall be honored at alltimes.
r Adequate pedestrian, loading/delivery, vehicle, and emergency vehicle access and circulation shall be maintrained.
r Roadways and pedestrian walkways shall be kept clean and free of dirt and debris.
r All construction deliveries, equipment, tools and materials entering the Vail Village and Pedestrian areas must go
through Check Point Charlie. All Lionshead construction activity must go to the Vail Police Department for a
parking permit. Do not use delivery zones for constuction parking, refer to approved staging plan or make other
anangements for parking.
e The hours of Outside Construction Activity shall be as follows:
- April 15-June 18 &SeptemberT- Novemberl9,7a.m. until 7 p.m., sevendaysaweek.
June 18 thru September 10, work must end by 4:00 p.m. on Fridays.
November 13 - April 15, 2005 work allowed within daylight hours only.
- Deliveries shall be restricted to the hours of 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Gore Creek Drive and 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on
Bridge Street.
- Special Construction delivery permits must be requested in advance, from PublicWo*s in conjunction with Code
Enforcement at Checkpoint Charlie.
- No construction activity shall occur on Saturday or Sunday between June 19 and September 5.
- No outside constructlon activity shall occur on the following dates:

Town of Vail MechanicalCodes and Desiqn Criteria
I You must obtain Design Review Board (DRB) approval if any of the mechanical work will involve
ANY exterior work. This includes and is not limited to removal and replacement of driveway snow
meft systems. Please contact a planner at 479-21'28 before submitting your mechanical permit
application.
. The Town of Vail has adopted the lggS lnternational Mechanical Code (IMC) with the 1997 Uniform
Mechanical Code (UMC) as an acceptable alternative.
. All new construction within the Town of Vail is considered to be of unusually tight construction, thus
all combustion air is required to be drawn from outside the structure for mechanical equipment.
Reference the 1997 UMC Sec. 7OL.2.
Town of Vail Fireplace Ordinance
In September of 1991, the Vail Town Council adopted an ordinance which restricts te construction and
use of open hearth fireplaces within municipal boundaries. Since that time the ordinance has
undergone numerous changes and revisions, striving for compromise, yet effectiveness in addressing
the air quality issue. Therefore the following criteria has been adopted:
i Construction of open hearth wood burning fireplaces is no longer permitted within Town of Vail
municipal boundaries.
. Dwellino Unats - Each new dwelling unit may contain:
One (1) EPA Phase II certified solid fuel burning device and no more than two (2) gas appliances
(B vent)
OR
Two (2) gas log fireplaces and no more than two (2) gas appliance fireplaces (B bent).
. Restricted Dwellinq Units - Each new restricted dwelling unit may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplace and not more than one (1) gas appliance fireplace.
. Accommodation Units - fain new accommodation unit may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplace or one (1) gas appliance fireplace.
o If two or more separate dwelling units or accommodation units are combined to form one larger
unit, the combined unit may retain one woodburning fireplace (if one already exists) and no more
than 2 gas appliance fireplaces, or may convert up to two existing fireplaces to gas.
. If during the course of a remodel an existing woodburning fireplace is altered or moved, the unit
must then comply with all provisions of the ordinance. That is, the fireplace must be converted to
natural gas or replaced by an EPA Phase II certified unit.

BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a
review by the Building Department, the estimated time for a total review will take as long
as three (3) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser
amount of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above
mentioned departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may take five
(5) weeks to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as
possible.
I, the undersigned, understand the plan check procedure and time frame. I also
understand that if the permit is not picked up by the expiration date, that I must still pay
the plan check fee and that if I fail to do so it may affect future permits that I apply for.

If yes was answered to a ny of the questions hen a 'P ublic Way" permit is required. You
can pick up an application at eiherCommunity Development locaEd at 75 South Fronbge
Road or Public Work,-located at 1309 Elkhorn Ddve.
Notice sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field verifo (locate) .respective
utjlites prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up bc 48 hourc notice b
schedule a locab.
A construchon traffic control/sbging plan must be prepared on a sepante sheetof paper'
An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic conhol
devices (signs, cones, etc.) and dre work zone, (area of construction, sbging, eb.). This
plan will expire on November 1st and will need b be resubmitted for considention for
approval trrough he winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
Skebh of work being peformed must be submitted indhating dimensions (lengh' widdr
and depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic confol plan or a site plan for the job.
Submit completed application to the Public Work's office for review. If required, locabs will
be scheduled for he Town of Vail electricians and irrigation crew. The locates take place in
the morning, but may require up to 48 hours to perform.
The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the applicatjon and approve or deny
the permiL You will be conbcted as to fte status and any requiremen$ that may be
needed. Most permiE are released within 48 hours of being received, but please allow up
to one (1) week to process.
As soon as the permit is approved, the Building Departnent will be notified, allowing the
"Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse tre 'Public Way Permit" with a
"Building Permit".
NOTE: The above process is for rrvork in a public way oNLY. Public way
Permits are valid only until November 15th. A new Public Way Permit is required
each year if vnork is not complete, Re-application each l'lovember 15th does not
mean an aubmatic renewal. (.
