BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Depaftment Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Depatment review or Health Department review, and a
review by the Building Department, the estimated time for a total review will take as long
as three (3) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser
amount of time, However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above
mentioned departments with regard to necessary review, these projecls may take five
(5) weeks to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as
possible.
I, the undersigned, understand the plan check procedure and time frame. I also
understand that if the permit is not picked up by the expiration date, that I must still pay
the plan check fee and that if I fail to do so it may affect future permits that I apply for.

Notice sign-offs for uUlity companies. ALL utilities must field verifo (locate) respective
utjlities prior to signing application, Some utllity companies require up b 48 hours notice b
schedule a locaE.
A construction traffic control/sbging plan must be prepared on a separab sheet of paper.
An approved siE plan may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic control
devices (signs, cones, etc.) and dre work zone/ (area of construction, sbaging, etc.). This
plan will expire on November 1st and will need to be resubmitted for considention for
approval through he winter. Be aware trat your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
Sketrh of work being peformed must be submitbd indicating dimensions (length, width
anddepdrofwori<). Thismaybedrawnonthetrafficcontrol planorasiteplanforthejob.
Submit completed applicafion to the Public Work's office for review. If required, locabs will
be scheduled for the Town of Vail electricians and irrigation crew. The locates bke place in
the moming, but may require up to 48 hours to perform.
The Public Work's Consbuction Inspector will review the applicatlon and approve or deny
fie permit. You will be contacted as to the sbtus and any requiremenb that may be
needed, Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, but please allow up
to one (1) week to process.
As soon as dre permit is approved, U're Building Departrent will be notified, allowing he
"Building Permit" b be released. Please do not confuse fie 'Public Way Permit" with a
"Building Permit".
NoTE: The above process is for rrrrork in a public way ONLY. Public Way
Permits are valid only until November 15th. A new Public Way Permit is required
each year if r,rrcrk is not complete. Re-application each November 15th does not
niean an aubmatic renewal. t,

The Town of Vail Building Depaftment has developed the following procedures to ensure that new
construction sites have adequately established proper drainage from building sites along and
adiacent to Town of Vail roads or streets,
The Town of Vail Public Works Depaftment will be required to inspect and approve drainage
adjacent to Town of Vail roads or streets and the installation of temporary or permanent culverts at
access points from the road or street onto the construction site. Such approval must be obtained
prior to any requests for inspection by the Town of Vail Building Department for footings,
temporary electrical or any other inspection. Please call Leonard Sandoval at 479-2l98to request
an inspection from the Public Works Department. Allow a minimum of 24 hour notice.
Also, the Town of Vail Public Works Department will be approving all final drainage and culvert
installation with resulting road patching as necessary. Such approval must be obtained prior to any
Final Ceftificate of Occupancy issuance.
