alarm company sewices the system for them.
Become familiar with the different components that are
associated with the fire alarm system and how they operate
before the DEMO begins.
Never paint a smoke detector, thermal detector, or any other
component of the fire alarm system, and never paint a sprinkler
head.
For small projects bag detector within the area you will be
working in before you startn and remove the bags after work is
done for the day.
For larger projects, please contact the Vail Fire Department so
that we can wbrk with you in determining what neds to be done
to alter or "Zone Out" specific aneas of the alarm system for the

Resettable outputs are created by connecting the resettable outpuifrom the FACP to one or both of the FCPS inputs, Non'
resettable outputs are created simply by cutting on board resistors. For addressable panel applications, use a monitor
module to sense lhe trouble status of the FCPS via the trouble relay contacts.
Example 3: Use addressable control modules to activate the FCPS versus the FACP Notification
Appliance Circuits. This typically allows for mounting the FCPS at greater distances away
from the FACP while expanding syslem architecture in various applications.

The NOTIFIER FSP-751 (photo) and F9l'751 (ion) are ana-
log, addressable, low-profile (height measures only 1.66"/
42.16ffittoke detectors designed for the en$e line of
intelligent systems from NOTIFIER' The FSP'?5iT photo
model includes a buitt"in thermat (heat) detBc-tion device. lf
either cDndiiion (smoke or heai) is detected, the device will
atarm.
The addressability of the FSP-751 and FSI-751 enables the
control panel to provide firelighters with a pinpoint descrip-
tion of where the fire is located. The FSP-751 and FSI-751
are also analog devices. The conlrol panel is capable of not
only knowing the detector's location but exactly how much
smoke is in the chamber of the detector. The detector may
be set for difrerent sensitivily settings appropriate to the en'
vitQnment of its location.
Analog devices conlinually send obscuration values to the con-
trrol panet. These values may be gathered so as to allow the
control panel to determine if a detector has accumulaied an
excessive amount of dirt or dusl A "maintenancs" lequired
indication allo\&s the installer to clean the smoke detector be-
fore an unwanted false alarm occurs.
The FSI-751 Intelligent lonization Sensor incorporates a
unique single-source chamberdesign to respond quickly and
dependably to a broad range of fires.
The FSP-751 Intelligent Photoelectric Sensor's unique opti-
calsensing chamber is designed with superior signalto noise
ratio. The optical chamber is engineered !o sense ttle pres-
ence of smoke produced by a wide range of combustlon
sources.
FlashScan@ (patent pending) is a new communication pro-
tocol developed by NOTIFIER Engineering that greatly en-
hances the speed of communication between analog intelli-
genl devices and certain NOTIFIER systems. Intelligent de
vices communicate in a grouped fashion. lf one of the de-
vices \,vithin the group has n€w information, the panel's CPU
stops the group poll and concentrates on single points. The
net efiect is response speed greeter then live tirnes that of
earlier designs.
Flashscan@ is a registered tradomark of NOTIFIER.

Wh6re ilOT To Pl,ace Dstoclors
On6 ol the major causes ol nuisance alarms is improper plac€ment of
detectors. Avoid locating delestors too close to kitchens orwood stoves,
wher€ smoke can be geflerated" Garages and tumace rooms are also
poor locations, due to exhaust lumes. Placing d€tsctors too close to
balhrooms can cause problems irom steamy balhs or showers. Also do
not install detectors where normal ambienl temperature can b€ ov€r
roo"F (37.8.C), such as atlics, Beler to NFPA 72 tor more information.
Superuision of 3y3t6m ltrirlng
Power widng in four-wiro systems is requircd by NFPA 72 la be
sup€rvised" This is accomplished by installing apowersupervision rclay
at lhs end of the detector power circuit. The contacts of lhe $pervision
relay are wired in seri€s withthe sysiem's alarm initiating circuil, and are
closed when enorgized (see Diagram 3). A break in the delector power
circuit or a loss of povrter de-en€rgizes the power suporvision relay,
opening ths contacts and causing a trouble annunciation at the fire
alarm conlfol unit.

ers, control equipment, etc. Addressability allows the dry
contact to be activaied, either manually ot through pan€l
programming, on a select basis.
Flash$can@ (U.S, Patent 5.539,389) is a new communi-
cation protocol developed by NOTIFIER Engineering that
greatly enhances the speed of communication between ana-
log intelligent devices, Intelligent devices communicale in a
grouped fashion. lf one of the devices within the group has
n€w information, the panel CPU stops the gmup poll and
concentrates on single points. The net effect is response
speed grsater tha n flve times that of other designs.
FEATUNEg. Built-in type identification automatically identifies these
devices to the control panel.. Internal ciraritry and relay powered diredly by tlrl}.wire SLC
loop. The FCM module rcquires power (for homs, strobes,
etc.), audio (for speakem), or a tolephone riser (for hand-
sets). Internal relay featurg available on Flashscan@ sys-

Installation instructions are packaged with each unit. The
PA400 is intended for mounting to a standard 2-112 deeg
single-gang box which allows sufficient clearance for con-
duit €ntrance. The PA400 is compatible with DC line su-
pervision. The piezo sounder is polarized and has termi-
nals marked with polarity. Apply positive supply voltage to
(+) terminal and negative supply voltage to the t) terminal
[See wiring diagramJ. Mount the appliance to the electrical
outlel bor using the two mounting screws supplied. Wiring
must be in compliance with all codes and must not be of
such lenglh or wire size which would cause the appliance
to operate outside of its published specifications.
The National Fire Protection Association h€s published
codes, standards, and recommended praclices for the in-
stallation and use of sounders and strobes. lt is recom-
mended that the installer be familiar with these require-
ments, with local codes, and any special requirements of
the Local Authority Having Jurisdiction.
