Overhead services are not allowed in he Town of Vail.
Underground seMces shall be in conduit (PVC) from the utility tansformer to the electric meter, main
disconnect switch, and to the first electrical distribution circuit breaker panel.
The main disconnect switch shall be rcadily accessible, andlocated next to the meter on the o<terior wall of
the structure. All underground conduits are required to be inspected before back-filling the trench.
In multi-family dwelling units, no electical wiring or feeder cables shall pass from one unit to another. Common
wafls and spaces are exempt

All installations of exterior hot tubs or spa's require a DRB approval from planning. This application will
not be accepted,without a copy of the DRB approval form attached (if applicable).
If this permit is for installaUon of an exterior hot tub or spa on a new elevated platform or deck over
30" above grade, you must also obtain a building permit.
If this permit is for installati6n of an exterior hot tub or spa on any €Ddsting deck or elevated platform,
a structural engineer must review the existing condition and veriry that it will support the added
concentrated load. Please provide a copy of the structural engineers wet stamped letter or drawing
with this application.o If this is a remodel in a multi-fami[ building with a homeowners associaHon, a letter of permission
from the association is required.o If this permit is.for a commercial space, two (2) sets of stamped drawings are required. Electrical
one-line and panel schedules are required if load is added ordistribution is altered.

Town of Vail Fireolace Ordinance
In September of 1991, the Vail Town Council adopted an ordinance which resEicts te construction and
use of open heart'lt fircplaces within municipal boundaries. Since that time the ordinance has
undergone numenous changes and revisions, striving for compromise, yet cffectiveness in addressing
the air quality issue. Therefore the following criteria has been adopted:
o Construction of open hearth wood burning fireplaces is no longer permitted within Town of Vail
municipal boundaries.
r Dwellino Units - Eactr new dwelling unit may contain:
One (1) EPA Phase II certified solid fuel burning device and no morc than two (2) gas appliances
(B vent)
OR
Two (2) gas log fireplaces and
Restricted Dwellino Units - Each new restricted dwelling unit may contain:

Accommodation Units - Each new accommodation unit may contain:
One (1) gas log ftreplace or one (1) gas appliance ftreplace.
If turo or more separate dwelling units or accommodation units are combined to form one larger

than 2 gas appliance fireplaes, or may convert up to two existing fireplaces to gas.
If during the course of a remodel an existing woodburning fireplace is alteled or moved, the unit
must then comply with all prcvisions of the oldinance. That is, the fireplace must be converted to
natural gas or replaced by an EPA Phase II certified unit.

Town of Vail Mechanical Codes and Desion Criteria
o You must obtain Design Review Board (DRB) apptoval if any of the mechanical work will involve
ANY elcerior work. This includes and is not limited to removal and rcplacement of driveway snow
melt systems. Please contact a Planner at479-2L28 for additional information.
r The Town of Vail has adopted the 2OO3 International Mechanical Code and the 2003 International
Fuel Gas Code.
r All new construction within the Town of Vail is considered to be of unusually tight construction,
thus all combustion air is required to be drawn from outside the structure for mechanical
equipment.
Town of Vail Fireolace Ordinance
In September of 1991, the Vail Town Council adopted an ordinance which restricts b construction and
use of open hearth fireplaces within municipal boundaries. Since that Ume the ordinance has
undergone numerous changes and levisions, striving for compromise, yet efrectiveness in addressing
the air quality issue. Thercforc the following criteria has been adopted:
o Construction of open headfi wood burning fireplaces is no longer permitted within Town of Vail
municipal boundaries.
r Dwellinq Units - Each new dwelling unit may contain:
One (1) EPA Phase II certified solid fud burning device and no morc dran two (2) gas appliances
(B vent)
OR
Turo (2) gas log fireplaces and no rnolt than two (2) gas appliance fireplaces (B bent).
r Restricted Dwellino Units - Each new restricted dwelling unat may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplace and not more than one (1) gas appliance fireplace.
. @ - Each new accommodation unit may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplace or one (1) gas apPliance fireplace.
r If two or mone separate dwelling units or accommodaUon units arc combined to form one larger
unit, the combined unit may retain one woodburning ftreplace (if one already exists) and no more
than 2 gas appliance ftreplaces, or may conyert up to turo existing ftreplaces to gas.
r If during the cource of a rcmodel an existing woodburning ftreplace is altered or moved, the unit
must then comply with all provisions of the ordinance. That is, the fireplace must be conyefted to
natural gas or replaced by an EPA Phase II certified unit
