Dear Jim,
The following items were brought up by the building inspector durlng an inspection of
building #1.
1 . The roof rake framlng betwsen grids 2 and 3 slong grid A is called out to be ?s12
rafier at 1'-0'for a gix foot section of roof, In lieu of providing rafters et 1'-0", the
existing framing may be doubled up to (2) 2x12 al2'-0". The added rafters should be
fastenCd to thc existing rafte/s back-span with three rows of 12d nails at 1'-0" and
attachcd to thc girder truss wilh a Simpson A-35 clip.
2. Where iryert€d Simpson U or HU hangers are indicated on plan at the roof for rake
framing and arg not yet installed, the hangers may be substituted with two Simpson
LS-90 clips, one on each side of the rafter.
3. The (2)2x4 beadng raall slrovrnr on 51.13 between grids 2 and 3 along grid C.3
(south wall of bathroom 4) is no longer required due lo the prefabricated truss design
incorporating the bearing of the trusses on the south side of this wall (T17) direc{ly
on the floor of the upper level above the steel beam. The trusses to lhe north of this
wall (T14, 15, andl6) bear on the heel of the south trusses and have becn designed

r You must obtain Design Review Board (DRB) approval if any of the mechanical work will involve
ANY exterior work. This includes and is not limlted to removal and replacement of driveway snow
meft systems. Please contact a Planner at479-2128 for additional information.
r The Town of Vail has adopted the 2003 International Mechanical Code and the 2003International
Fuel Gas Code.
o All new construction within the Town of Vail is considered to be of unusually tight construction,
thus all combustion air is rcquired to be drawn from outside the structure for mechanical
equipment
Town of Vail Fireolace Ordinance
In September of 1991, the Vail Town Council adopted an ordinance which rcsticts te construction and
use of open hearth fircplaces within municipal boundaries. Since that time the oldinance has
undergone numerous changes and levisions, striving for comprcmise, yet effectiveness in addressing
the air quality issue. Theretrore the following criteria has been adopted:
r Construction of open heafth wood burning fireplaces is no longer permitted within Town of Vail
municipal boundaries.
o Dwellino Units - Each new dwelling unit may oontain:
One (1) EPA Phase II certifted solid fuel burning devioe and no more lfran two (2) gas appliances
(B vent)
OR
Two (2) gas log fireplaces and no more than two (2) gas appliance fireplaces (B bent).
r Restricted Dwellino Units - Each new restricted dwelling unit may contain:
One (1) gas log fireplace and not more than one (1) gas appliance fireplace.
o Accommodation Units - Each new acoommodation unit may contain:
One (1) gas log ftreplace or one (1) gas applianoe fireplace.
r If two or more separate dwelling units or aocommodation units are combined to form one larger
unit, the combined unit may retain one woodburning fireplace (if one already exists) and no more
than 2 gas appliance fireplaces, or may @nveft up to turo existing fircplaces to gas.
o If during the course of a rcmodel an existing woodburning fireplace is altered or moved, the unit
must then comply with all provisions of the ordinance. That is, the fireplace must be converted to
natural gas or replaced by an EPA Phase II certified unit.
