As you suggested, enclosed please find the documents I believe you need for our application for Conceptual Design Review, which are the sigaed application, the conceptual plan by Woodley Architectural group, together with a photo of the existing element on the outside of the Marriott, which we would like to replicate and a letter from the Marriott indicating their preliminary approval of our plans. Following is a narrative ofthe scope ofwork ofthe project. The existing unit 5G is a three bedroom condominium located on the top floor ofthe Mark Lodge, it appears the unit has not been updated since it was built circa 1975. The first thing we would like to do is simply update the existing space, but the unit also has high vaulted ceilings throughout. The amount of vaulted ceiling space at present seems a waste. We would like to take advantage of the under utilized space and add square footage as per the attached plan. In addition, although Unit 5G has an exterior wall on the south side of the building looking beyond The Antlers and up Vail Mountain, for some reason in its' current configuration, the windows of 5G are virtually all oriented to the west, looking at another wing of the hotel. We have worked with the Marriott to develop the attached plan which re-orients the Great Room of the unit to the south, with windows and a balcony that take advantage of the magnificent views. Since Vail Resorts recently remodeled the hotel and added a number of units, which have been updated and re-oriented in a similar fashion; we were able to use one of the existing window/ balcony details that were previously added to enhance the exterior of the Marriott. We have included a rendering and photo to help you visualize the possible concept for the south elevation ofthe building. 7400 E. Crestline Circle . Suite 125 . Greenwood Villaee , Colorado 801 I I . He has visited the site and believes the preliminary plans can be reasonably engineered. Should anything be incomplete or if you have any questions regarding our submittal, please do not hesitate to call. April 7, 2004 comments:. Suggested making the proposed deck more of a feature. The current proposal looks like a "lego block stuck to the side of the building".. Suggested mimicking the deck on the east elevation across the pool area as shown in the picture provided by the applicant. April 21, 2004 comments:. Use the same truss work design as seen on other gables on the building.. Design the deck so as lo not have the support column for the gable roof directly above the window below.. Show all elevations for future review.. Design the gable so as to follow the roof line of the parapet wall above. At this point you should complete and submit a Design Review applicalion for your proposed deck taking into accounl all the commenls from the two work sessions. The type of application you will be applying for is a Minor Alteration for a MultiJamily structure. I have included this application along with this letter. I will be out of the office from May 3 - 14, 2004. Your completed application should be submitted to Joe Suther here at the Town of Vail. He can be reached at 970-479-2128 should you have any questions in my absence. What I have currently will be acceptable for that meeting. For a final revievrof your proposal a complete Design Review application will be necessary. I have received a comment from the Fire Department which will need to be resolved prior to moving forward with a final review. The Fire Department has made me aware of several concerns they have with the Marriott's current fire alarm monitoring system. Apparently, the existing system is inadequate to accommodate expansion to the existing buildings. The Marriott is cunenlly working towards a solution as they havb an application for eipansion in as well. This issue will hopefully reach some resolution soon. ll I can be ot any further help please lel me know. You will need to attend the April 7, 2004 meeting which will begin ht 3:00.
