The applicants, Bell Tower Condominium Association and Lancelot Reslaurant, represented
by Werner Schadl, are requesling to proceed through the development review process with
a proposal lo remove trees on the Gore Creek Promenade. The Gore Creek Promenade is
owned by the Town of Vail, and the Town Council serves in the role of "properly owner'for
this site. Therefore as the property owner, the Town Council musl consent to the applicant
proceeding through the Town's development review process with this proposal.
STAFF BECOMMENDATION
The Community Developmenl and Public Works Departments recommend the Town
Council approves the applicant's request to proceed through the developmenl review
process.

Re: Removal of trees on Gore Creek Promenade by Lancelot Restaurant
To Whom It May Concern:
Bell Tower Condo Association / Lancelot Restawant would like to see the three Aspen trees removed at this
time. With the ongoing improvement by the T.O.V. installing the snow melting systems at Gore Creek
Promenade, now would be the right time to do so.
In my conversation with Mr. Steve Weber from B&B, we told him that we always had issues where the
concrete edge met the border of the pavers. It has always been uneven and a problem. We are concemed for
the safety ofour guests along with others getting hurt on the properfy which Lancelot Restaurant is leasing from
T.O.V.
After discussing the matter with Mr. Todd Oppenheimer, he also expressed that the trees do not look healthy.
As you can see from the pictures, it would be the proper improvement at this time while construction is in firll
swing and underway.

l'll get that information to you asap. I have selected boulder down at the Gallegos Stone Yard in Gypsum.
l'll see if they can email me a photo. The plan is to conceal the valves, connections, and controls in a hole
cut into the boulder and covered with a painted/textured steel plate. There will be painted metal box, 10"
to 12" square mounted low on the wall of the restroom where the electrical exists the wall. l'll provide a
detail. Thanks.

please provide me with a detail of the sort of 'boulde/' specified on the site plan? Also, how is the gas
intake/etc. going to be concealed? I'm assuming it will be, right?

Elisabeth,
I was finally able io get photos of the boulder from Gallegos. lt took about 5 tries. Two photos are
attached. The burner assembly (which you have photos of) will be mounted on a textured and painted
(black) steel plate on the boulder. The plate covers a cavity that will be cul in the boulder to hide the
controls. The boulder is approximately 32" square by 36'tall. lt is not exactly the same species of stone
as the water features but is a similiar moss boulder variety. The Arkansas Strip Slone used in the water
features is to soft and inegular to use for this application. John Power and Lori Aker are aware of this
installation and have reviewed it with our insurance representative. The height, protective ring, and control
features satisfy their concerns and requirements. .Please let me know if a staff approval of the design is
oossible. Thanks

Trash Cans
Art in Public Places has been working with artists and fabricators to develop
a unique, high quality, trashcan for Vail. The prototype can is made from
12 gauge steel, with two oversized pine cones plasma cut into the metal side
panels. It is finished with a baked on powder coat and a protective clear coat
of paint. The new trash receptacle is approximately the same size as the can
currently made in the TOV carpenter's shop. The Public Works department
believes that a metal trashcan will not require as much maintenance as wood,
which currently costs the town approximately $150 per year to repair and
refinish. The can will also have four adjustable block feet and a receptacle
for cigarette butts. AIPP recommends that the Public Works department
place an initial order for twenty trash cans. The trash can is currently on the
steps of the Municipal Building.
