General Contractor: Slopeside Construction
Inspection of shop fabrication or field work at job site: Field
Report: Verified onsite welder was qualified per AWS Dl.l & using the correct
welding electrodes/materials.
Visually inspected field welding at steel beam, column, and steel frame
connections East side unit. Note steel beam bearing on column connections were
field welded two side with 1" end returns along with beam connection plates at
steel frame that were welded three sides with 1/4" fillet welds in lieu of bolting, as
shown on structural details. Per conversation with the structural engineer welding
in lieu of bolting was acceptable & some follow up documentation would be
provided.
The field welding & high strength A325 bolting inspected above appeared to be
in substantial conformance with the plans/engineers correspondence, and the
quality requirements of the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code & the
AISC/RCSC Specification for A325/A490 bolting.
Further inspections will need to be performed on the West side unit.
