COLD FORMED METAL FRAMING
1. All framing members shall be formed from galvanized steel, G60, corresponding to the requirements of
ASTM C955-06 and ASTM A1003/A1003M-05 with the following minimum yield strengths:
a. Studs: 16, 14, 12 gauge & thicker: 50ksi minimum yield
b. Studs: 18, 20 gauge & thinner: 33ksi minimum yield
c. Typical track: 33ksi minimum yield
d. Deep Leg Track (DLT), or as noted by [50]: 50ksi minimum yield
2. All members shown are standard designations of SSMA / SFIA. See typical details for nomenclature.
3. All framing components shall be cut squarely for attachment to perpendicular members or as required
for an angular fit tight against abutting members; maximum stud to track gap = 1/8", shim as required
4. Provide deflection compensation connections as indicated, to accommodate building movement and
thermal length change.
5. Provide all structural connections as indicated
6. Splices not permitted in continuous punched opening sills, headers, studs and joists, track or stud
sections. Special order track may be required for window / door openings wider than 10ft.
7. Temporary bracing is contractor's means and methods, has not been designed by HES.
COLD FORMED METAL FRAMING FASTENERS
1. Screwed connections: Hilti Kwik-Pro type screws or approved equal. Verify head profile with
architectural finishes prior to ordering screws or starting work. Ensure minimum three threads at back side
of joined materials, increase screw length as required.
2. Wire tying of structural components is not permitted.
3. Welded connections: fasten components as indicated with G60 electrodes, follow all requirements of
AWS D1.3.
4. Power actuated fasteners (PAF):
a. Substitutions must be authorized in writing by HES prior to ordering
materials or starting work.

Values listed here are per ASD design method.
Due to load combinations, ASD vs LRFD design
