MEMORANDUM
This memo is intended to document to following structural items relating to
the above noted subject project.
In summary, a new exterior patio with a short retaining wall is being proposed
with a new exterior door installation within an existing window opening. A new
egress window is proposed for a new tower level bedroom requiring the
removal of the existing concrete block foundation wall and the installation of a
window well as well an interior access doorway. Lastly, the lower level
bedroom ftoor shalt be raised to accommodate new plumbing.
STRUCTURAL REQUIREMENTS:
• The new upper tevel door shall be installed within the width of the
existing window opening. The existing CMU foundation wall shall be
sawcut as required for the new opening. A treated 2x6 or 2x8 sill plate
shatl be installed and attached to fully grouted celt below with drive pins
C 12" (3-minimum) or �/2" diameter x 5" expansion bolts (2, minimum).
A (2)2x6 trimmer shall be instalted on each side of the opening and
shall be attached top and bottom with 3-16D toenails on each side
and/or (1) Simpson L50.
• At new egress window, sawcut existing CMU foundation wall as required
to frame treated 2x8 sill and trimmers. Overcut upper portion of opening
to accommodate a new (2) 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 x 1/4 steel angle lintel
(vertical leg up). Verify that CMU foundation wall in fully grouted at all
cetls and provide 4" of minimum bearing on each end. Patch, repair and
grout CMU as required to provide full bearing on horizontal legs of lintel.

• Frame new bedroom door opening (up to 3'-0") with a (2)1-3/4" x 9-
1/2" LVL header, (2)2x6 trimmers and (2)2x6 kin� studs.
• Overframe lower level bedroom floor using 9-1/2" i-joists C� 16" on
treated 2x6 sleepers C� 5'-0 +/- spacing - gtue to existing slab W/ PL400.
