I spoke with Jonathan last week and as per Jonathan's request an email response would be sufficient. I am sorry that I have been slow to get back to you. I was out of town and now I am under a time restraint via a court order. At any rate, I think your new shingles look great. Wynne, Esquire � I am writing as the Town of Vail is requesting that you (Jean and Ken) approve not only our re-roof but also the color and style of the roof that we are putting on our home. This is because we are zoned as a duplex (even though we are considered a separated duplex). The shingles that we are using are made by GAF and they are called designer shingles or architectural shingles (as they are thicker than normal shingles and have a texture to them). They also have a higher impact rating than normal shingles to prevent hail damage. The color is Mission Brown(which has some brown, grey and tan undertones) and are made to look similar to weathered cedar shakes that we currently have on our homes. I'll double check with Jonathan Spence at the Design Review Board about these details today. In summary, you would have to consider two things: 1) Do you like the look and color of this type of roof and 2) Would you be fine with using something similar in design and look if and when you did a re-roof on your home in Vail. We have flexibility with changing things at this point if needed. Let me know if you have problems being able to see these links.
