RE: Parking Violations on Meadow Drive
Dear Mr. Flores,
I am writing to formally request a plan for a permanent solution to the continual parking
violations that occur on West Meadow Drive near the loading and delivery area of Vail Valley
Medical Center. The area of concern is the space covered with gravel between the sidewalk and
the walled-in oxygen tank. A portion of this area is within the public right-of-way. The
Community Development Department has made numerous requests for parked vehicles to be
relocated from this area to the appropriate parking, loading, and delivery areas. Typically, you
have been very responsive to our requests. Violations continue to occur, however, which is why
a permanent solution is needed.
Meadow Drive serves as the primary link between Vail Village and Lionshead for pedestrians,
cyclists, and transit. The Town of Vail would like to ensure the integrity of this important link by
not marginalizing those using it with the interference of vehicles. Furthermore, parking in the
Town’s right-of-way is not allowed, including at this location. The Town’s hope is that the Vail
Valley Medical Center will enhance this area in a way that prevents vehicles from parking there.
Ideally, such modifications would also provide pedestrians with a more pleasant environment.
Previously approved plans have indicated Vail Valley Medical Center’s intention to plant turf and
evergreens there (see attachments). The Community Development Department would like the
Vail Valley Medical Center to follow through with its intention to enhance this area with a
landscaping or some other treatment that will prevent parking violations from occurring again at
this location.
Please contact me by email at jbatcheller@vailgov.com or by phone at 970-479-2440 to confirm
that you have received this this letter. I would like to discuss landscaping options with you.
Darryl, I look forward to working with you to address this issue. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Joe Batcheller
