Schmidt: As requested by Shaeffer-Hyde Constroction, a representative of Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. observed the excavarion at the subject site on August 18, 2015 to evaluate the soils exposed for foundation support. The findings of our observations and recommendations for the foundation design are presented in thi'> report, We previously conducted a subsoil study for design of foundation-; at the site, report dated November 29, 20 I 3 and ob5erved rhe excavation for Unit B residence. report dated June 18. 2015. Joh No. 113 405A. The current observation was performed in addition to and in accordance with our proposal for services with you dated October 18. 2013. Three pier footings are proposed along the south side of the L'nit B garage. Spread footings placed on the natural granular soils and sized for an allowahle bearing pressure of 3,000 p-.f were designed for the building support. At the time of our visit to the site, the pier excavations had each been cut in one level from 4 to 6 feet below the adjacent ground surface. The soils exposed in the bottom of the excavations consisted of silty clayey sandy gravel with cobbles which had been compacted. No water seepage wa<> encountered in the excavation and the soils Y.ere moisL The relatively dense granular soils exposed in the excavations are consistent with those previously encountered on the site and suitable for support of spread footings designed for the recommended alJowahle bearing pressure of 3,000 psf. Surface water should be kept out of the excavations and any S-Oftencd soils and mud removed before concrete placement. Other recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicat:ilc should also be observed. The recommendation-. submitted in this letter are bused on our ob,ervation of the <;oil-; exposed within the foundation exca\:atinn and the previous limited subsurface exploration 'i, "q!
