HomeMy WebLinkAboutB15-0193_S005_1435611540.pdfx SOIL TYPES AND DESIGN PROPERTIES SHALL BE CONFIRMED BY THE SITE GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER PRIOR TO WALL CONSTRUCTION. x THE WALLS ARE DESIGNED TO SUPORT THE FOLLOWING MAXIMUM SURCHARGE LOADINGS: BACKSLOPE - 3H: 1V MAX SOIL BEARING CAPACITY 1500 PSF EQUIVALENT FLUID PRESSURE (EFP) 50 x THE WALL DESIGN MAINTAINS A MINIMUM FACTOR OF SAFETY OF 1.5 ON ALL ELEMENTS OF THE STATIC WALL DESIGN UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. GLOBAL STABILITY, WHEN EVALUATED, MAINTAINS A MINIMUM FACTOR OF SAFETY OF 1.3 UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. x WALL CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE MONITORED BY A QUALIFIED ENGINEER TO VERIFY FIELD CONDITIONS. IF THIS WORK IS NOT PERFORMED BY THE ENGINEER, THE ENGINEER SHALL BE CONSULTED IN THOSE MATTERS PERTAINING TO SOIL CONDITIONS AND WALL PERFORMANCE. x THE FOUNDATION SOILS AT EACH WALL LOCATION SHALL BE INSPECTED BY THE ENGINEER AND ANY UNSUITABLE SOILS OR IMPROPERLY COMPACTED EMBANKMENT MATERIAL REMOVED AND REPLACED AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO WALL CONSTRUCTION TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE BEARING CAPACITY AND MINIMIZE SETTLEMENT. x ALL WALL EXCAVATION AND RETAINED SOILS SHALL BE INSPECTED FOR GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS AND ANY ADDITIONAL DRAINAGE PROVISIONS REQUIRED IN THE FIELD SHALL BE INCORPORATED INTO THE WALL CONSTRUCTION AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER. x WALL BACKFILL MATERIAL SHALL BE TESTED AND APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER FOR USE IN THE REINFORCED SOIL ZONE MEETING THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE APPROVED DESIGN PLANS. ALL BACKFIL MATERIAL MUST BE APPROVED BY MARTIN/MARTIN, INC. A GRADATION AND APPLICABLE LAB TESTING RESULTS OF ANY MATERIAL CONSIDERED SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL. x ALL SOIL BACKFILL SHALL BE TESTED BY THE ENGINEER FOR MOISTURE, DENSITY, AND COMPACTION PERIODICALLY (EVERY 2' VERTICALLY, 100'-200' C/C) AND SHALL MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE APPROVED DESIGN PLANS OR PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS. x WALL CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE PERIODICALLY INSPECTED BY THE ENGINEER TO ENSURE THE GEOGRID REINFORCEMENT ELEVATIONS AND LENGTHS ARE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPROVED DESIGN PLANS. x ALL WALL ELEVATIONS, GRADES, AND BACKSLOPE CONDITIONS SHALL BE VERIFIED BY THE ENGINEER IN THE FIELD FOR CONFORMANCE WITH THE APPROVED DESIGN PLANS. ANY REVISIONS TO THE STRUCTURE GEOMETRY OR DESIGN CRITERIA SHALL REQUIRE DESIGN MODIFICATION PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH CONSTUCTION. x THE SOIL PLACED BEHIND THE WALL IN THE BACKFILL ZONE SHOULD BE COMPACTED TO 95% OF ITS MAXIMUM STANDARD PROCTOR DRY DENSITY (ASTM D- 1557). BACKFILL MUST BE COMPACTED BY MECHANICAL MEANS. NO WATER FLOODING TECHNIQUES OF ANY TYPE SHOULD BE USED IN THE COMPACTION OF THE BACKFILL ON THIS SIDE. HIGHLY EXPANSIVE SOILS OR CLEAN SANDS ARE NOT TO BE USED AS FOUNDATION BACKFILL. THE SOILS SHOULD BE CONDITIONED TO ACHIEVE A MOISTURE CONTENT WITHIN ±2% OF THE SOIL'S OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT. x RIDE-ON MECHAINCAL COMPACTION EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE OPERATED NO CLOSER THAN WITHIN 3' OF THE KEYSTONE UNIT BACK SURFACE. x DO NOT OVER COMPACT OR COMPACT SOILS NEXT TO THE BACK OF THE UNIT IN AN UNCONTROLELD MANNER. THIS MAY DRIVE DRAINAGE MATERIALS UNDER THE UNIT, FORCING THE UNITS OUT OF LEVEL. IF THIS CONTINUES, THE WALL MAY BEGIN TO LEAN FORWARD. x ALL SOIL TESTING SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY A QUALIFIED ENGINEER. SOIL TESTS SHOULD BE TAKEN NO CLOSER THAN TWO FEET FROM THE BACK SURFACE OF THE KEYSTONE UNIT. x THE SAME PLACEMENT RULES APPLY FOR EACH CONDITION. IN GENERAL, ALL SOILS SHOULD BE PLACED IN NO MORE THAN 8" THICK LIFTS, THE HEIGHT OF A SINGLE KEYSTONE UNIT. MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE PROPER THICKNESS OF MATERIAL PLACED IN A SINGLE LIFT IS DEPENDENT ON THE TYPE OF SOILS AND COMPACTION EQUIPMENT BEING USED. FOR EXAMPLE, CRUSHED STONE (USED FOR UNIT/DRAINAGE) MAY BE PLACED IN MAXIMUM LIFTS AND WILL COMPACT WITH MINIMAL EFFORT. MOST INORGANIC SITE SOILS, EASILY INFLUENCED BY MOISTURE LEVELS, MUST BE PLACED IN SHORTER LIFTS AND WILL REQUIRE GREATER COMPACTION EFFORT. x ALL PLACEMENT, INSTALLATION, AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE KEYSTONE UNITS, GEOGRID REINFORCEMENT, AND CONNECTION COMPONENTS SHOULD BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS, REQUIREMENTS, AND SPECIFICATIONS. x THIS WORK CONSISTS OF DESIGNING, FURNISHING AND INSTALLING A CONCRETE BLOCK FACING MECHANICALLY STABILIZED EARTH (MSE) RETAINING WALL SYSTEM AT THE LOCATIONS AND TO THE LINES AND GRADES SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
