2015 IRC, 2015 IECC
Occupancy Type: Single Family
ENERGY CONSERVATION: THE BUILDING COMPLIES WITH THE ENERGY CONSERVATION REQUIREMENT FROM CHAPTER 4 OF THE 2015 INTERNATIONAL ENERGY CODE PER ZONE
6B ADOPTED BY THE TOWN OF VAIL, AND AS DEMONSTRATED BY PRESCRIPTIVE BUILDING THERMAL ENVELOPE, AS FOLLOWS:
The following is a summary for the climate zone 6B of Table 402.1.2 requirements of the IECC and as adopted by The Town of Vail, and an outline of the proposed R values of the assemblies
of the building which are defined in the Construction Document Drawings and Specifications:
Maximum Glazing U-Factor of .30 for new single family dwelling units per Town of Vail amendments, this can be a weighted average.
The Jeld-Wen windows and Weiland doors with triple glazed low E glazing (low E on 2 surfaces) exceed this requirement - average U-Factor _0.25_. See 8 1/2 x 11 Building Permit Application
Summary for Manufacturer's summary of U values.
Ceilings & Roofs Insulation - Requirement of R-49 which is reduced to R-38 per 402.2.1 since the construction techniques provide a full R-38 insulation value over the wall top plate.
Typical Roof Condition - 11 7/8” Wood I-Joist Roof Assembly provides total of R85.05 per the following assembly: 5/8" plywood over 5 1/2" polyiso insulation panel of R-36.3 (R-6.6 per inch)
over 5/8" plywood over 2” 2 pound spray foam of R-13.2 (R-6.6 per inch) and 11 7/8” joist filled with a blown in cellulose insulation of R-35.55 per 9.875" (R-3.6 per inch) over GWB ceiling.
Basement Walls Insulation - Requires R-15 of continuous insulation or R-19 cavity insulation:
Provide R36.4 per the following assembly: R-10 2” rigid foam insulation panel (R-5 per inch) over the exterior of 13" concrete wall. Drainage medium over the interior of concrete wall and 2x4
P.T. studs set 2.5" off of the interior of concrete wall. Fill cavity with 4” of 2 pound spray foam insulation of R-26.4 (R-6.6 per inch) continuous at the interior of concrete wall & between studs
and 5/8" non-paper based gyp. sheathing.
Exterior Walls Insulation - Requires R-20:
Provide R41.475 per the following assembly: 5/8” ply over continuous 2 3/8” polyiso exterior insulation panel with R-15.675 (R-6.6 per inch) with 2" of 2 pound spray foam with R-13.2 (R-6.6
per inch) and 3 1/2" cavity wall blown-in cellulose insulation with R-12.6 (R-3.6 per inch) over 5/8” drywall.
Floor Insulation - Requires R-30: The building has been designed with a conditioned and finished basement space.
Provide R-48.75 at the floor/ceiling assembly @ pantry per R-13.2 per 2"closed cell spray foam insulation (R6.6 per inch) and 9.875” of blown in blanket fiberglass with R-35.55 (R-3.6 per
inch) (12" TJI structure typ.).
Basement Slab - Requires R-15 for 4' horizontally under slab (since the slab is heated).
Provide R15 with R5 continuous 1" rigid insulation under the slab and R10 2” at exterior of foundation wall.
Provide full cavity blown in cellulose sound insulation at all interior walls and at all floor assemblies.
