Code required arc fault and new wiring
Dear Jeff,
In 1999 the National Electrical Code established in article 210-12 that arc fault protection would
be required for residential circuits. Before arc fault became a requirement it was normal
practice to share neutrals when distributing branch circuits to the various residential electrical
loads.
When substantial residential upgrades are completed it is often required that the panel and
corresponding wiring is updated to current codes. With review at Alphorn Unit 103, I would
understand the town would require these upgrades.
For further review regarding arc fault please review this article. https://www.mikeholt.com/mojonewsarchive/AFCI-
