SLEEVES SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED IN STRUCTURAL MEMBERS EXCEPT WHERE INDICATED OR APPROVED. SLEEVES IN NONLOAD BEARING SURFACES SHALL BE GALVANIZED SHEET METAL, CONFORMING TO ASTM A 653, COATING CLASS G-90, 20 GAUGE. SLEEVES IN LOAD BEARING SURFACES SHALL BE UNCOATED CARBON STEEL PIPE, CONFORMING TO ASTM A 53, STANDARD WEIGHT. SEALANTS SHALL BE APPLIED TO MOISTURE AND OIL-FREE SURFACES AND ELASTOMERS TO NOT LESS THAN 1/2 INCH DEPTH. 2. EACH SLEEVE SHALL EXTEND THROUGH ITS RESPECTIVE WALL AND SHALL BE CUT FLUSH WITH EACH SURFACE. PIPES PASSING THROUGH CONCRETE OR MASONRY WALL SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH PIPE SLEEVES FITTED INTO PLACE AS REQUIRED. SLEEVES SHALL BE OF SUCH SIZE AS TO PROVIDE A MINIMUM OF 1/4 INCH ALL-AROUND CLEARANCE BETWEEN BARE PIPE AND SLEEVES OR BETWEEN JACKETED-INSULATION AND SLEEVES. EXCEPT IN PIPE CHASES OR INTERIOR WALLS, THE ANNULAR SPACE BETWEEN PIPE AND SLEEVE OR BETWEEN JACKET OVER-INSULATION AND SLEEVE SHALL BE SEALED WITH APPROPRIATE JOINT SEALANTS. 3. ESCUTCHEONS: FINISHED SURFACES WHERE EXPOSED PIPING, BARE OR INSULATED, PASS THROUGH WALLS EXCEPT IN UTILITY OR EQUIPMENT ROOMS, SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH ESCUTCHEONS. WHERE SLEEVES PROJECT SLIGHTLY FROM FLOORS, SPECIAL DEEP-TYPE ESCUTCHEONS SHALL BE USED. ESCUTCHEON SHALL BE SECURED TO PIPE OR PIPE COVERING. 3.02 CLEANING 1. REMOVE DEBRIS FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF ALL DUCTWORK AND EQUIPMENT. CLEAN INTERIOR OF EXISTING WSHP UNIT WITH A DAMP CLOTH TO REMOVE ALL DIRT AND METAL SHAVINGS. 2. BRUSH OR CLEAN WORK, WHICH WILL BE CONCEALED, PRIOR TO FINAL ACCEPTANCE AND BEFORE CONCEALING. 3. CLEAN SURFACES WHICH HAVE BEEN SOILED AND REPAIR SURFACES WHICH HAVE BEEN DAMAGED TO MATCH ADJACENT SURFACES BEFORE FINAL ACCEPTANCE. 3.03 PAINTING: PROVIDE ALL PAINTING REQUIRED FOR THE MECHANICAL WORK 1. PAINT SHALL BE THE BEST GRADE FOR ITS PURPOSE, DELIVERED IN ORIGINAL SEALED CONTAINERS, APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS, WITH COLORS TO MATCH THE EXISTING OR ADJACENT SURFACES. 2. PROVIDE HOT-DIPPED GALVANIZED OR ZINC CHROMATE PRIMER ON ALL UNFINISHED IRON SURFACES. 3.04 TESTING, ADJUSTING AND BALANCING (BY OWNER/FACILITY OPERATIONS) 1. GENERAL: A. ADJUSTMENT: BEFORE TEST AND BALANCE WORK IS INITIATED, EACH PIECE OF HVAC EQUIPMENT AND EACH HVAC SYSTEM SHALL BE ADJUSTED TO THE APPROXIMATE DESIGN CAPACITY TO ENSURE PROPER FUNCTIONING OF ALL CONTROLS. 1) PRELIMINARY OPERATION: THE OWNER RESERVES THE RIGHT TO OPERATE ANY SYSTEMS OR EQUIPMENT PRIOR TO FINAL COMPLETION AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE WORK. SUCH PRELIMINARY OPERATION SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUED AS AN CONTRACTUAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE MECHANICAL WORK. 2. AIR DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS: A. BALANCE AND ADJUST AIR DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM TO QUANTITIES INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ASSOCIATED AIR BALANCE COUNCIL (AABC) MANUAL, LATEST EDITION; OR THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL BALANCING BUREAU (NEBB) MANUAL, LATEST EDITION. B. BALANCING AND TESTING SHALL BE PERFORMED BY A CERTIFIED INDEPENDENT FIRM SPECIALIZING IN TESTING AND BALANCING (AABC); OR BY A CONTRACTOR CERTIFIED IN TEST AND BALANCING (NEBB). FIRM SHALL BE A MEMBER OF AABC OR NEBB. TEST REPORTS SHALL BE TYPEWRITTEN AND SUBMITTED IN BOUND FOLDERS AND ON THE AABC OR NEBB TEST AND BALANCE REPORT FORMS. ALL GRILLES, REGISTERS, AND DIFFUSERS TESTED SHALL BE IDENTIFIED IN THE REPORT BY DESIGNATIONS AS INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS. C. THE HVAC SYSTEMS AND THE INDIVIDUAL DAMPERS AND AIR BALANCING DEVICES SHALL BE ADJUSTED TO PROVIDE DIFFUSER AIR FLOW DELIVERY NOT BE LESS THAN NOR MORE THAN TEN (10) PERCENT OF THE AIR DELIVERY INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS. D. UPON COMPLETION OF THE INSTALLATION, CONTRACTOR SHALL REBALANCE ANY AIR DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM AFFECTED BY THE TENANT IMPROVEMENT WORK AND RENOVATION, INCLUDING AIR TERMINAL UNITS AND AIR OUTLETS. 3.05 INSTRUCTION OF OWNER'S OPERATING PERSONNEL 1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INCLUDE THE COST OF THE SERVICES OF QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR(S) TO INSTRUCT THE OWNER'S OPERATING PERSONNEL IN THE OPERATION, ADJUSTMENT, CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF ALL EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS. 2. INSTRUCTION SHALL BE PERFORMED AT A TIME APPROVED BY THE OWNER AFTER ALL EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS ARE INSTALLED, COMPLETED, ADJUSTED AND OPERATING TO SPECIFIED REQUIREMENTS. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER 7 DAYS PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED TIME WHEN INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE GIVEN. 3. QUALIFICATION OF INSTRUCTOR(S) SHALL BE SUBJECT TO APPROVAL OF THE OWNER AND EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER. 4. THE BASIS OF THE INSTRUCTION AND TRAINING OF THE OPERATORS FOR HVAC EQUIPMENT SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS PROVIDED FOR THE MECHANICAL, FIRE PROTECTION AND PLUMBING EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS SUPPLIED FOR THIS PROJECT. 5. TWO COPIES OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ALL REQUIRED INSTRUCTIONS TO OWNER'S OPERATING PERSONNEL, SIGNED BY THE OWNER OR HIS AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE, SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO SUBMITTING APPLICATION FOR FINAL PAYMENT. AN ADDITIONAL COPY OF THIS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT SHALL BE PLACED IN EACH COPY OF THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS BEFORE THEY ARE TURNED OVER TO THE OWNER AND/OR THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE. 3.06 PROJECT CLOSEOUT 1. AFTER FINAL COMMISSIONING OPERATIONS FOR INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE, DELIVER ALL COPIES OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION TO THE ENGINEER: 2. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE (O&M) MANUALS. 3. RECOMMENDED SPARE PARTS LISTS, TO BE INCLUDED IN A SECTION OF THE O&M MANUAL. 4. EQUIPMENT STARTUP REPORTS (PREPARED BY FACTORY-AUTHORIZED START-UP PERSONNEL). 5. RECORD (AS-BUILT) DRAWINGS. 6. CONTRACTOR'S WRITTEN WARRANTY. 7. EXTENDED WARRANTIES, TO BE INCLUDED IN A SECTION OF THE O&M MANUAL. 8. HVAC TEST AND BALANCE REPORT. 9. CONTROLS COMMISSIONING REPORT. 10. HVAC COMMISSIONING REPORT. 11. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CEWA'S FOR HVAC EQUIPMENT. 12. ALL TOOLS SUPPLIED WITH THE EQUIPMENT FOR MAINTENANCE SHALL BE TAGGED AND TEMPORARILY SECURED TO THE UNIT, OR TURNED OVER TO THE BUILDING ENGINEER OR THE OWNER'S AUTHORIZED AGENT FOR THIS PROJECT. 13. ALL SPARE PARTS AND AN EXTRA SET OF HVAC FILTERS SHALL BE TURNED OVER TO THE BUILDING ENGINEER OR THE OWNER'S AUTHORIZED AGENT FOR THIS PROJECT. 2.05 INSULATION MATERIALS 1. MATERIALS: INSULATION, JACKETS, FACINGS, ADHESIVES, COATINGS, AND ACCESSORIES SHALL BE UL LISTED AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH NFPA STANDARD 90A FIRE HAZARD RATING: "FIRE HAZARD CLASSIFICATION OF BUILDING MATERIALS"; UL 723, ASTM E84, NFPA 225. A. FLAME SPREAD: 25, MAXIMUM. B. FUEL CONTRIBUTED: 50, MAXIMUM. C. SMOKE DEVELOPED: 50, MAXIMUM. 2. INSULATION SHALL BE MANUFACTURED BY MANVILLE OR APPROVED EQUAL. 3. INSULATION SHALL BE LABELED AS REQUIRED BY CODE. 4. INSULATION SHALL BE APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS. 5. NOISE CONTROL: A. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, ALL ROOM NC LEVELS SHALL BE 35 OR LESS. B. DUCTS LINED AS REQUIRED. 6. INSULATE ALL EXISTING AND NEW DUCTWORK AND EQUIPMENT, EXCEPT AS FOLLOWS: A. VENTS, OVERFLOW AND RELIEF PIPING. B. RETURN AIR DUCTS IN CONDITIONED SPACES AND EXHAUST AIR DUCTS, EXCEPT WHERE INDICATED. C. WHERE SOUND LINING IS OF MINIMUM THICKNESS SPECIFIED FOR INSULATION. 7. TYPE OF INSULATION: A. DUCT INSULATION: 2-INCH THICK, 3/4 PCF LB. DENSITY, DUCT WRAP GLASS FIBER INSULATION WITH ALUMINUM FOIL FACING. 6.0 R-VALUE. MANVILLE R-SERIES MICROLITE OR APPROVED EQUAL. B. DUCT LINING: 2-INCH THICK, 1-1/2 PCF DENSITY, COATED ON AIR SIDE WITH BLACK NEOPRENE, FIRE-RESISTANT, ANTI-MICROBIAL COATING. 6.0 R-VALUE. MANVILLE LINACOUSTIC OR APPROVED EQUAL. FOR THE FOLLOWING DUCTWORK: 1) ALL DUCTWORK WITHIN MECHANICAL ROOMS AND NOT LESS THAN 25 FEET FROM FAN FOR SUPPLY AND 20 FEET FROM FAN FOR RETURN DUCTWORK. 2) AIR TRANSFER DUCTS. 3) DOWNSTREAM OF ALL VARIABLE AIR VOLUME AND CONSTANT VOLUME BOXES FOR A MINIMUM OF 10 FEET. 4) MINIMUM OF 2 INCHES THICK FOR ALL MIXED AIR PLENUMS, EXCEPT WHERE MOISTURE CARRY-OVER FROM OUTDOOR AIR LOUVER WILL OCCUR 2.06 ROOM TEMPERATURE SENSORS 1. MARK PIPING WITH SIZE, PURPOSE AND DIRECTION OF FLOW WITH CORRECT 2.08 IDENTIFICATION OF EQUIPMENT AND CONTROLS 1. ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE STENCILED OR LABELED WITH LAMACOID PLATES SCREWED THEREON WHICH SHALL INDICATE SYSTEMS SERVICE. 2. AN IDENTIFICATION LABEL SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF EQUIPMENT: A. AIR HANDLING UNITS. B. EXHAUST FANS. C. VALVES. D. AS REQUESTED BY THE OWNER. 1) IDENTIFICATION LABELS SHALL BE BY SETON, OR EQUIVALENT. 2) THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE INFORMATION, LETTERING SIZES, ETC. FOR IDENTIFICATION LABELS SHALL CONFORM TO THE BUILDING STANDARD. 2.09 EQUIPMENT OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS 1. ON COMPLETION AND ACCEPTANCE OF WORK, THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS TO THE OWNER ON THE PROPER OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE (O&M) OF ALL EQUIPMENT AND APPARATUS FURNISHED UNDER THIS CONTRACT. 2. THESE INSTRUCTIONS SHALL BE TYPED ON 8½ BY 11 INCH PAPER AND BOUND IN THREE-RING BINDERS WITH CLEAR ACETATE COVERS. ALSO AN ELECTRONIC COPY ON A DVD SHALL BE PROVIDED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL GIVE THREE HARD AND TWO DVD COPIES OF THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE OWNER AND ONE COPY OF BOTH TO THE ENGINEER. 3. THE INSTRUCTION BOOKLET SHALL BE ORGANIZED IN SECTIONS WITH ONE SECTION PER SYSTEM. THE COVER OF THE INSTRUCTION BOOKLET SHALL BEAR THE NAME, ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER OF THE PROJECT, ARCHITECT, ENGINEER, MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR AND SUBCONTRACTOR'S NAME. 2.10 ACCESS DOORS 1. PROVIDE EQUIPMENT AND CONCEALED VALVE ACCESS, EXCEPT IN REMOVABLE TILE CEILINGS AND APPROVED BY LOCAL CODE, WITH ADEQUATE SIZE (MINIMUM 18 INCHES BY 18 INCHES) ACCESS DOORS FOR INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE. 3.00 INSTALLATION 1. HVAC EQUIPMENT AND THE INSTALLATION THEREOF SHALL CONFORM TO ASHRAE 15. NECESSARY SUPPORTS SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL EQUIPMENT AND APPURTENANCES. 2. THE DRAWINGS ARE DIAGRAMMATIC AND DO NOT INDICATE ALL NECESSARY OFFSETS, OBSTRUCTIONS, OR STRUCTURAL CONDITIONS. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO FIELD VERIFY ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS WHICH AFFECT THE ARRANGEMENT AND LAYOUT OF THE WORK. 3. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO INSTALL THE WORK AT THE HIGHEST ELEVATION POSSIBLE AND IN SUCH A MANNER AS TO CONFORM TO THE STRUCTURE, AVOID OBSTRUCTIONS, MAINTAIN HEADROOM, AND LEAVE ADEQUATE CLEARANCES FOR LIGHT FIXTURES, MAINTENANCE ACCESS, AND FOR OTHER CLEARANCES AS REQUIRED BY THE LOCAL AHJ. ALL WORK TO PROVIDE MAXIMUM POSSIBLE CLEARANCES IS A PROJECT REQUIREMENT AND SHALL BE PERFORMED AND PROVIDED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE PROJECT. 4. PROCEED WITH THE INSTALLATION AS RAPIDLY AS THE BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION WILL PERMIT. THOROUGHLY CLEAN ITEMS BEFORE INSTALLATION. CAP OPENINGS IN DUCTWORK TO EXCLUDE DIRT UNTIL FINAL CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. 5. WELDING AND BRAZING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE QUALIFIED PROCEDURES USING PERFORMANCE QUALIFIED WELDERS, AND BRAZING OPERATORS. 6. FOR DIRECTIONS AND DETAILS NOT SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, THE MANUFACTURER'S CERTIFIED DRAWINGS AND WRITTEN OR PUBLISHED INSTRUCTIONS SHALL BE FOLLOWED IN ALL CASES WHERE THE MAKERS OF DEVICES AND EQUIPMENT FURNISHED PROVIDE SUCH INFORMATION. 7. DRAWINGS ARE NOT INTENDED TO BE SCALED, BUT SHALL BE FOLLOWED WITH SUFFICIENT ACCURACY TO COORDINATE WITH OTHER WORK AND STRUCTURAL LIMITATIONS. 8. ALL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE SECURELY FASTENED TO THE BUILDING CONSTRUCTION BY AN APPROVED SUPPORTING SYSTEM. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ANCHORS, SUPPORTS, AND CONNECTIONS OF THE MECHANICAL WORK TO THE BUILDING STRUCTURE TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE STRUCTURE OR TO MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING THE CONNECTION AND INTEGRITY OF SHOP-FABRICATED AND FIELD-FABRICATED MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT. ALL SUPPORTS, EQUIPMENT AND CONNECTIONS THERETO SHALL BE DESIGNED TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA BUILDING CODES, OR TO THE OTHER GOVERNING CODES. 9. ALL MECHANICAL WORK SHALL BE PROPERLY SUPPORTED FROM THE BUILDING STRUCTURE AND/OR FRAMING IN AN APPROVED MANNER, AND SHALL BE INDEPENDENT OF THE CEILING 2.04 SUPPORTS AND ANCHORS 1. GENERAL: SUPPORT HORIZONTAL DUCTS WITH HANGERS OF SIZE AND SPACING AS REQUIRED BY THE SMACNA DUCT MANUAL. PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPLEMENTARY STRUCTURAL STEEL AS REQUIRED. 2. HORIZONTAL DUCT SUPPORTS: A. INSTALL HANGERS AT EACH CHANGE IN DIRECTION OF DUCT. B. STRAP HANGERS: 1) EXTEND STRAP AND FASTEN TO DUCT DOWN BOTH SIDES OF DUCT. 2) TURN STRAPS UNDER BOTTOM OF DUCT ONE INCH, MINIMUM. 3) PROVIDE SHEET METAL SCREWS AT 12-INCHES ON CENTER. 4) SEAL AROUND SCREW HEADS "AIR TIGHT".
