Color, size, and style to match the building stone veneer. 3 4" - 1- 1 2 " Diameter Crushed Gravel Wrapped in Mirafi 700 or Equivalent Fabric. Install Lateral Drain with 4" Diameter PVC. Drain to daylight (see Plan) Compact Backfill to 90% Minimum Standard Proctor. 3) Nylon webbing strap collar, heavy duty. Do not twist. Straps should have clearance from the trunk so as not to have girding effect. Space evenly. Provide 2" clearance minimum between the trunk and the strap eyes. Do not cut leader. Prune damaged or dead wood after planting and staking. Keep shape typical of species. Do not prune lower branches. Guy wires: provide 3 equidistant around tree. Keep clear of branches to prevent rub damage. Finish Grade Existing undisturbed subgrade 12. Build a water saucer not less than 6" to edge of root ball so as not to cover the ball. 13. Water thoroughly to the point of saturation, removing all air pockets from backfill material, utilizing a long metal pipe water wand. 14. Do not fertilize until 3-6 months post planting 15. Mulch with stringy bark or whole tree chips to a depth of not more than 4". In the case of an uneven root ball surface, mulch depth must not exceed the indicated specifications. 10. Apply a minimum of 3 evenly spaced stakes per tree. A single stake supporting multiple trees is unacceptable. 11. Drive stakes into undisturbed soil. Face T-posts directly opposite the tree. 4" 6" Min. Leave this area low for planting (see Plan for proposed planting and soil preparation requirements). Compost 2 3 Backfill, 1 3 compost mixture. 1. Measure the width of the ball. 2. Locate the root collar. Root ball height shall be measured from the root collar to the bottom of the ball. 3. Remove stem circling roots that are located above the root collar. 4. Dig a tree pit depth 4"-6" shallower than ball height. If the pit is initially dug too deep fill soil must be thoroughly compacted before receiving the ball. 5. The final resting height of the root collar shall be a minimum of 2" above final grade. When planting trees within flower beds, the root collar height shall be a minimum of 4" above final grade. 6. Once the tree is positioned vertically, partially backfill only a portion of the bottom 1 3 to 2 3 to stabilize the ball. Foot pack in 6" lifts. No rocks larger than golf ball size are permitted. 7. Backfill composition: 1 3 native soil, 1 3 screened quality topsoil, and 1 3 compost. 8. Once the ball is stabilized, remove the twine and burlap from the trunk and the ball's upper surface. Once the ball twine has been removed, standing/kneeling/leaning on the ball surface is not permitted. 9. Remove the upper 1 3 of burlap and basket from the ball sides. Then apply the remaining backfill. Ht. Width X" Existing undisturbed subgrade Existing undisturbed subgrade Deciduous Tree 24" Approved tree strap. Do not twist. Maintain a minimum of 2" clearance between the strap eyes and the trunk. Where possible, straps should be placed at slightly different heights on trunk. 4" void around base of tree Water Saucer Staking for evergreen trees 12' and taller: provide 3) Nylon webbing strap collar, heavy duty. Do not twist. Straps should have clearance from the trunk so as not to have girding effect. Space evenly. Provide 2" clearance minimum between the trunk and the strap eyes. Remove three years after installation. Do not cut leader. Prune damaged or dead wood after planting and staking. Keep shape typical of species. Do not prune lower branches. Guy wires: provide 3 equidistant around tree. Keep clear of branches to prevent rub damage. Finish Grade Existing undisturbed subgrade 8. Provide tree stakes as described above. Space evenly. If more than three stakes are required, provide the appropriate number. 9. Drive stakes into undisturbed soil, keeping the tops even. 10. Build a 4" water saucer 6" minimum from the edge of the root ball with compost material. Inside of Saucer shall not cover the root ball. 11. Provide 4" depth of bark nuggets, 2-4" diameter for area within the water saucer. Leave a 4" diameter void around the base of the tree. 4" Water Saucer 6" Min. Leave this area low for planting (see Plan for proposed planting and soil preparation requirements). Compost 2 3 Backfill, 1 3 compost mixture. 1. Measure height of the tree ball (Ht.) 2. Dig a tree pit twice the root diameter (Width), and shallower than its Ht. depending on the size of the root ball (X): 60" diameter root balls and larger should be 6-12" above natural grade; 2-3" caliper trees should be 2-6" above natural grade. 3. Set the root ball on undisturbed soil. 4. Remove twine, burlap, and baskets from top 1 3 of root ball. 5. Fill pit with 2 3 backfill and 1 3 compost. No rocks larger than baseball size are permitted. Foot pack in 6" lifts. 6. Water thoroughly, to the point of saturation, removing all air pockets from backfill material. Utilize a long metal pipe watering wand. Do not fertilize at time of planting. 7. Tree shall be planted vertically and maintained throughout construction. Any site retaining above or below the tree shall be provided as necessary and shall be outside of the drip line of the tree. Boulder retaining shall match the other site retaining. For steep slopes, refer to Evergreen Tree Planting on Slope Detail. Ht.
